Don't play hard to get unless you want trampy women. If that's your thing, then go for it. Google the article "the top 5 things jerks do to get women" (it's not exactly playing hard to get, but I agree that the tips are effective on us women folk).

If you want someone to genuinely care about you, you have to approach it differently. People are right about the nice thing hurting you sometimes, but they don't have to be. You have to balance it with confidence. You can't nice them into liking you. If you like yourself, the easy going nature of the nice guy will fall into place. Girls like to be swept up, so sweep 'em. Like the other commentator, you HAVE to have a backbone. You have to show them a good time. We're wimps. We want more than a friend out of a man, we want manly men. So, with out becoming a cocky jerk, emphasize that you are indeed a man and use that to woo us.

Playing hard to get won't help. In general girls don't try too hard to get the guy in the first place and leave the hard work, the chasing, up to him. What they mean isn't that you're easy to get, they mean that you're a pushover. You come off as a way that makes it seem like you have no backbone.
