Why/how does sweet and sour chicken have sooo much salt?

It doesn't taste salty, it tastes sweet and sour, were does the salt come from?

  • I assume salt being used to balance out the flavours. So it's neither too sweet and too sour. Salt isn't ideal in the dish, soy sauce does the trick fine.

  • Naturally the sauces are high in sodium... just take soy sauce for example
