What is a sandwich?

By definition a sandwich is items between two slices of bread, or a slice roll. So by that. a hotdog is a sandwich, as well as a taco, quesadilla, etc.

  • A taco isn't a sandwich but a hot dog surely is.

  • A taco doesn't involve bread and the dictionary defines bread as being a necessary component. Also, for something to be sandwiched it is usually required to be between two independent items rather than wrapped in one item, hence you could differentiate a wrap from a sandwich and you could differentiate a taco from a sandwich.

    • So a definition for bread (roughly) is a mixture of flour or meal (ex. corn, spinach etc.) and for the two independent items instead of a wrapped one. Then a club sandwich technicly isn't a sandwich because it is normally made as a cut roll wrapped around the ingredients.

    • No, a club sandwich is typically made of three slices of bread with ingredients sandwiched between those three slices.
