When it comes to soft-drinks, what do you call them, and why?

People from different regions call carbonated, flavored, alcohol-free beverages by different names. Globally it is accepted to call them soft-drinks, but people call them Sodas, Pop, and particularly in the Southern area of the USA they are called Coke, no matter what kind of soft-drink brand it is.

  • Well, we have different varieties. So generally we call them by their brand name.
Example : Pepsi, Sprite, Mirinda, Coke.
If someone says Soda, the shopkeeper will hand them a bottle of Soda Water. Because here that's what's assumed you're asking for, instead of any soft drink.

And "Cold Drink" is also used to refer to soft drink often.
