Energy vs energy from fat?

If a pack says following for a 100 ml product:

Total Energy: 87 kcal
Energy from fat: 54 kcal

Are those two considered different? Does total energy include energy from fat?

87 + 54=141?
or
Fat + other stuff = 87

  • Yes, sounds like you understand it.

Fat is 54 kcal of the total 87 kcal. The 54 is TOTAL fat, not good or bad as one of the anonymous posters said. However, the label should list saturated and trans fat.

Note that 1 gram of fat is 9 kcal. So a serving should contain ~6 g of total fat.
