Is it normal if a bottled black beer leaves grainy residue on the glass?

I poured the beer on a glass, drank it all, the taste was good, but at the end I noticed the beer appeared cloudy and left a grainy residue on the glass. Why was there that grainy residue?

  • Grainy? Or was it just the froth that dried on the inside of the glass? A lot of black beers are unfiltered though, so that could have something to do with it. If you didn't go blind, it's probably fine. 😋

  • Yes that just means it's unfiltered. It's just a tiny bit of the brewing yeast still left in the beer. Nothing to worry about-- probably just means that it was a quality beer.

  • It must of been naturally carbonated and the residue would of been spent yeast.

    • When a beer is naturally carbonated you can't filter it or you'd lose the carbonation.

  • Yes. Not all beer is filtered.
