  • It can be. The key is to look and wait for sales, and stock up on things when they go on sale. Never overpay for anything and ONLY shop at grocery stores that have the cheapest prices. Many grocery stores carry the exact same items, but they can vary wildly in price from store to store. Only shop at stores where you can get what you need at the cheapest prices.

Once you start shopping around, you'll begin to learn what is a good price for each item over time. You can save A LOT of money over time by being a careful shopper. Enough to pay for trips, help with mortgage payments, or to just put in the bank.

Start shopping with your mom or dad to learn about what things cost, how much food costs each week and how to budget for it. The more you know now, the less pressure you'll feel when the time comes where you will be shopping for yourself. 😉🙂

    • @Goodwifie I save a lot of money there and you would too.

      For example:
      Carafe of not-fom-concentrate OJ:
On sale this week at Shop-Rite or anywhere else: $3.99
Lately expensive price at Aldi: $2.35.
And that orange juice is every bit as delicious as Tropicana not-from-concentrate.

    • Example 2:

Smart Juice - an organic juice from Turkey.
      Shop-Rite: $6.98 for a 1-liter bottle.
      Aldi:
First, Aldi sells actual Smart Juice in with Smart Juice labeled bottles: $3.89 / liter bottle.
Aldi quickly recognizes this is a good seller so they make a deal with Smart Juice to sell it rebranded as an Aldi brand, "SimplyNature". So, now the Aldi-brand "Smart Juice" is $3.89 / liter bottle.
Smart Juice flavors: Antioxidant Force; Super Fruit 7
Aldi SimplyNature flavors: Antioxidant Power; 7 Super Fruits

... but they are the same exact thing including the Product of Turkey on the labels.

Just another way they save you money.
... and its another way Smart Juice makes money too. Lots of companies sell both their products and their off-brand competitors. GE taught me that CVS light bulbs are GE light bulbs, but people will pay more for GE bulbs because they say GE and that the GE brand is valuable. But CVS is still selling a GE bulb at 2/3rd the price...

  • Depends. What store? How much are you buying? What are you buying? Etc.

  • If you take advantage of sales, BOGOs, and use coupons you can eat well for under a dollar a day. If not then closer to $7 a day. It's definitely less expensive then eating out.

  • Depends on the store. You'll get much more for your money at Harris Teeter than you would at Whole Foods. It also helps to sign up for store cards. Those can help you save BIG at checkout.

  • For sure. The weekly sales and store you go to plays a part but it's still pretty expensive.
