Yes they do sometimes AUTOMATICALLY include the tip on the receipt and then don’t even tell you about it. Let’s be real people don’t read receipts unless they have to. It’s a shameless scam.

That guy admitted that slot of what he says is half truth, so he is basically bullshiting you
@GD360 Eh‽ Who said this: Adam or GradeAUnderA?All the mentioned was that tipping is still necessary while the system isn't abolished yet (Adam) for the workers to live or (GradeAUnderA) to not suffer (illegal!) contamination of food. Who said his evidences were lies?
50% damn are you American or extremely generous
Hahahaha @Iamagoodguy, both I'm an American and generous when treated with impeccable service. Believe me it works to my advantage, I'm remembered everywhere I go, and treated properly. It's rare I don't receive good service. And I will ask another staff member about the employee to find out if they are having a bad day maybe going through something if that's the case I'll leave a 10-20% tip depending on situation. One time a woman her husband died the night before I gave 200% tip with my condolences. Then contacted my brothers in blue and took up a donation went to the funeral home paid for the service and burial and gave her the rest.
I think the biggest time I got mad about a no tip was because I had a table of 4 who decided to stay for 4 hours then not tip. The no tip wasn't a big deal because I expected it from them (Indians) it was the fact they stayed too long and only ate a single cheese omelette with 3 pancakes. They also yelled at me because I refused to give them a salad bowl of strawberries, they were free but a salad bowl is too much for any table.
What importance does them being Indian have in this scenario? I’ve had crappy customers from every background, gender and age group. The only people I don’t really blame are kids. It’s the adults that drive me crazy 😭
Well, generally speaking, Indians tend to be the most infuriating customers because they have a habit of ignoring American customs. It's not the lower/no tipping that annoys me its when they stay for multiple hours, take off their shoes and make attempts to get free things. I've had them yell at me because I told them they can't order off the 55+ menus, one guy tried to do it so his kid could get half off a full chicken dinner then pretended his English suddenly flew out the window and another part just kept asking for it until I told them no for the 5th time before they all left without ordering.Every race has bad apples but it seems like Indians generally have no respect for restaurants.
You’re wrong, friends. I’ve never had any Indian people do that at my restaurant.
Is it an eat in restaurant or mainly take out?
People sit down and eat typically. We serve frozen yogurt
That's not the same as a sit in restaurant. That's more of a Starbucks type of deal where you can sit but it's not expected that you do so. I mean like IHOP or a steak house
We still deal with customers. Both rude and pleasant. The point I’m making is I don’t think one particular group is more prone to being rude than anyone else
Yeah but what I'm talking about is people who overstay their welcome along with being incredibly rude. The difference is no one stays 4 hours for fro-yo then complains then leaves $1.36
No, you probably won't get killed. (People might comment on the lack of tip, with the intensity depending on their predisposition, your likability, and their awareness that you're from a country without tipping.) Something might happen to your food while in the kitchen next time you're there (if the crew remember and recognize you). Technically, that's illegal, and (during my time in the food industry) I personally didn't witness this while working in the kitchen. I'm guessing this will be more in kitchens dominated by those with bad character. Unfortunately, how can anyone recognize this when choosing restaurants, without knowing any insiders in the kitchen?Back in Asia, I never had to worry about this problem, since tipping isn't really a thing there. But here in the U. S., I pretty much tip 20% over & above the advertised-price just to be sure.
@N192K001, thanks for the advice and explanation! I definitely do not want to have someone do something nasty to my food. :) The cost of eating and drinking at a restaurant or bar seem to be similar in the US and Europe, so I do not understand why the employees are paid so little that they are basically forced to rely on tips in the USA. From your comment, I understand that in Asia tipping is also uncommon: do you know why?I hope the situation in the US changes and such reliance on tips will become a thing of the past. I cannot imagine myself relying on the customers to pay me extra via tipping for the work that I do for my employer. It is very wrong, in my eyes.
@Flamdring Yeah, treatment is different. In the U. S., this seems to be a result of the Great Depression, but hasn't disappeared (yet). The people here seem used to paying more than advertised, since taxes aren't included until the receipt/bill is finally issued. (This seems to be due to the way federalism is applied here, where each state, county, and city/town has its own tax-rates to combine, while advertisements are national. So, you pay different prices in 1 place over the other, despite the same price advertised nationally.) The Philippines (my birthplace) is unitary (the opposite), so Manila sets the rate, making taxes predictable nationwide. Hence, everything is added into the price of each individual good/service. From what I understand from Japan, tipping isn't done there since they're almost O. C. D.-level perfectionist, so employees are paid for superb customer-service… or you're out. Tipping in this scenario seems like an act of pity (for a failed attempt?), which isn't appropriate in this situation. I'm not sure about the rest of Asia.Perhaps, if enough Americans travel Eurasia, they'll see how liberating & convenient non-tipping culture is. For now, many diners seem to like it for the common idea that they tip based on performance (which isn't what statistics seems to suggest), and restaurant-workers think tips are income-tax free (when it legally isn't). But then again, how complete & precise are statistics on tips here in the U. S?How are prices done in Europe? Anything different in federal & non-federal nations? Do you know exactly how much you'll pay before you buy?
In the USA it is SPECIFICALLY because of tipping. The rationalization is that, since they get tips, wages can be lower for them.
Now, if wages were sane, that wouldn't be an issue.
Tru dat we get 15 bucks an hour
If you get that much, you don't need tips.
You just said it’s a bad tradition and last time I checked it’s not a law to tip sooooo why are people obligated to keep doing something that’s bad and that they don’t like? Lol. My way to make a change is to stop tipping, duh. Call it a peaceful protest.
That's not helping and you know that. You're saving money at the expense of morale. You know what's also peaceful? Call a senator or Representative. That's gonna help way more than leaving a zero dollar tip.If you truly think it helps then tell your waiter/waitress at the beginning of the meal "I don't believe in tipping so I'm not going to tip you for this meal".
Yeah! Strippers need the pay, so do the hookers who work in massage parlours.
Lol some Americans are so serious about this 😄
They really are.
They get paid almost nothing for their work because they're expected to get a tip, genius
@Rangers do you really believe that I made good pay pumping gas, working the till, putting food on roller grill , making sure coffee pots are full and fresh all day, cleaning bathrooms, counting smokes and tills? Lmao but yet these food service people should get it for doing half the work?
It's a very stressful and draining job, and for drivers, they're actually losing money if they don't get tipped
@Anon damn I understand, that’s pretty rough, can’t be mad at ya.
@Rangers so ur saying that someone who stands out in -40 weather isn’t as deserving of a tip as a waiter? Cuz guess what? My job as a gas jockey was stressful too.
Really? You need to be told this?Because i didn't need to be told and i dont even live in the united states..There are many service jobs in the US where the client is expected to pay their service provider directly, like a waitress.I think the going rate is something like 15 - 20 percent so this is what you should pay if there is nothing wrong with your service, if there is a problem then its reasonable to pay less if the service is good you should pay more.By not paying them in this way you are dishonestly claiming that they have failed to do their jobs, it is exactly the same as taking a product off the shelf and walking about without paying for it.
Relax and I’m there because of and paying for my food and can care less about them serving it to me. Keep bitching and watch more people go to self serving buffets instead. You don’t see the cooks or other staff bitching about tips and yet they deserve to. A customer owes nothing to a business besides mutual respect and paying for what they asked for and thats my damn food, soo yeah cry me a river.
You are a disgustingly ignorant thieving cunt, go kill yourself you pathetic waste of jizz.
Lol so not tipping is stealing look up the definition of stealing stealing is taking something which isn't yours what exactly am I taking from them I'm paying for my food not their wages
@Cocacolaaddict You are stealing their labour you ignorant fuck.
@Cocacolaaddict Could you just fuck off and kill yourself? You people are so fucking stupid.
The world definitely needs less retards such as yourself. Therefore, kill yourself first so I can laugh at the dumbass who keeps calling not tipping 'stealing'. Fucking idiot 😂😂😂
I ain't stealing a damn thing they don't work for me they work for the restaurant shit for brains why don't you just shut the fuck up you toxic imbecile
Stealing? So call the cops and have non-tippers arrested.
@HereIbe Fuck off muppet.
In other words, it isn't stealing, and you're just a shithead. If it is stealing, CALL THE COPS, you shit-stain.
@HereIbe Why dont you go learn what rhetoric is you dumb cunt
@HereIbe Yeah, except you claim to be aware of rhetoric but then you dont understand it and then go on to talk a lot of bullshit because of it.Just shut up and fuck off, you are dumb as fuck.Wrong too.Best case scenario is that you are a tight fisted cunt who won't tip waitress.Just kill yourself you pathetic cunt.
Awwww, how CUTE! You've got butthurt! Aren't you a pathetic little nobody? And you've got so much butthurt that you're wishing death upon me.So CUTE! You're morally and mentally qualified to go suck Donald Trump's dick on his command.
@HereIbe I hate stupid and i always will.
Guess you hate yourself then :D
@Cocacolaaddict Really? That what you have? You are so weak.
Yet your the one who couldn't think of anything to say but your so weak classic defeated response I have my issues with herelbe but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him whoop your arse all you could say was pathetic dumb and cunt while herelbe destroyed you with cusses and a bit or argument skills it was funny to watch honestly this one time I say good on you herelbe but honestly after observing your behavior and watching your comments I have determined you are the biggest loser I have ever met and iv met a lot
@Cocacolaaddict He didn't destroy a damn thing, all he did was hammer home the point that he doesn't have a fucking clue what rhetoric is, apparently you dont either.
He did though your completely defeated the fact that you didn't say kill yourself dumb or cunt for a change is striking youv actually started talking like a normal human being which is what you should have done from the start if you had you wouldn't need spanking for being an overgrown child. And as for rhetoric I'm not sure you even know what that means seeing as your misusing its context
@Cocacolaaddict Who is going to spank me though? You faggots just keep embarrassing yourselves.
Youv already been spanked do I really need to talk to you like a child? Suppose I shouldn't be suprised given your child-like IQ I suppose expecting a bit of intelligence from a 40 year old child was too much to ask for
@Cocacolaaddict Buddy the only thing you will ever spank is your monkey. So just carry on with that and stop boring me.
I don't desire to spank anything least of all a monkey :D quite a poor attempt at wit there
@Cocacolaaddict and thats game, thanks for playing. Try to be right or interesting next time though, I really can't over stress how important that is.
Your under the impression that somebody needs to pique your interest. By all means go ahead and quit I understand
I just read through the comments here and I am dumbfounded at the ignorance among so many people about tipping. Some of you people are truly stupid.
I mean what would be better?Eating in that place 4 times a month without any tipping or eating 3 times a month each with a tip? I'm always hungry.
And what’s 20%?
20% of the bill
You're kidding right? You do know what a % is don't you?
% = percent sign. You do know that right?
... I’m asking what 20% of a bill would be. Yes I know what a damn percent sign is.
Depends how much the bill is and and it be 20% of that for a tip. The standard starting tips are usually 15% of the bill
Well how much is 20% of a dollar it's based on that. Not that an actual restaurant bill would ever be a $1 but it's a hypothetical example
Yes I have actually. I’m sure a lot of people have had customer service/food related jobs and dealt with that shit but I never asked for tips, and oh how funny when I don’t ask I actually got a few. It’s not good to beg when you’re in a first world country ya know.
Yeah, it does sound kinda bad when someone begs for tips, I agree with that. Also, employers should be the ones paying their staff more instead of just letting them live off tops, that's kinda messed up
Tips not tops*
