Because it has nothing to do with ego. A man wants to feel like a man because men are protectors and dominant leaders to women. It's not that you were stronger than him as a woman. But that he already felt weak as a man. If he was defeated by a man, he would feel the same way. But between a woman? Somebody of the opposite sex that is expected to be weaker than the man? That's worse. At least in a man's world. And as a woman, you are not a man. You don't know what a man's world is like. Saying that he can say he won won't solve anything. In reality, he lost to YOU. A woman. It is not any disrespect to you. But for a man, they feel like they not good enough. Men have insecurities too.

It's only when dealing with women. Had you been a man, he would have laughed it off.

Because believe women to be weak. No if and or butts. No matter the strides women make, theyll always think of us as inferior. And hate to tell ya, but that's life. You can't change the mindsets of a group who literally have degraded women for years on end love.
