Why I Sit To Pee

As men, we're told one of our major advantages in life is the ability to stand while urinating. Its supposed to be liberating or something like that. Boys are teased if they prefer to use a stall in elementary school. We even have designed openings in our underwear designed for urinating while standing up (even though most men admit they usually just pull the waistband down anyways).

If all of that is true, why do I not prefer to stand to pee? There are multiple reasons.

Sitting gives my legs a chance to rest:

I work on my feet all day. Whether its in the warehouse or on job sites, I rarely have time to sit. The little bit of time I get to sit on the toilet can be a very welcome break.

I can check my phone:

Bathroom breaks are one of the few places a working man can check twitter/snapchat/facebook without the fear of management. Even in a company like the one I work for with a rather liberal phone-use policy, its still not looked upon to highly to spend too much time scrolling through the newsfeed.

Less mess:

Even if you have perfect aim, there's always a little bit of spray or splatter. In public restrooms I guess you could argue that its not your problem, but at home you more than likely have to clean your own toilet! (And if you don't clean your toilet regularly, you should be). This task is much more pleasant when you haven't been urinating standing up.

There are real health benefits:

A Leiden University Medical Center study found that sitting to urinate helped men suffering from lower urinary tract symptoms to pee with greater force. They found that sitting creates a "more favorable urodynamic profile" which helps avoid prostate problems. Even for healthy individuals, sitting to pee helps eliminate more urine from the bladder than standing to pee.

Avoids most (if not all) zipper problems:

If you're not pulling your penis through your zipped fly to pee, you're much less likely to get that sensitive skin stuck in the zipper. This benefit to sitting cannot be overstated.

When the other side of nature calls, you're prepared:

If you find yourself needing to defecate, you're already sitting down. Problem solved.

The seat up or down argument is solved:

Trust me guys, the women in your life will appreciate that they never have to have this argument with you. This could very well save your relationship.

There's far less noise:

Do you really need everyone in the next room to know exactly how long of a pee session you're having? I know I don't.
