Why do GUYS touching each other's crotch? Is it for fun? or... I'm curious?

Ok so i have fellow guy friends in class and I don't know it seems weird to me that they have to touch each other's crotch and start laughing or cover themselves with a backpack or hands and I always stare at them in disbelief like what the F is wrong with them? It's not like I'm a creeper or sth they do that in class I mean.. they're publicly unashamed is it how guys are I mean ik that saying "boys will be boys" but damn it I'm curious to know why guys do that...

Apparently it's a myth that guys in our 20s are going through a gay phase. It's the same with girls when they touch each other but it doesn't mean anything. It the same with guys.
