Why would his friend say “I thought you two would be cuddling?” when he’s in a relationship with another woman?

We were best friends at uni for three years.
We meet up once in a blue moon since then.
Recently we went on a camping trip with some of his new friends (I don’t know).
He has a long term girlfriend (now engaged).
So when we had to share a bed to wild camp out of sight, why did his friend make that comment in the morning when he came over to us?
(I was deliberately wrapped up in my own sleeping bag and refused to share his double sleeping bag so there was no physical contact).

Anyone here who has any mature and helpful answers? I’d be really grateful 🙂 thanks.

If anyone answers this genuinely I’ll happily answer any one of their questions of their choosing.
