Am I asking for their number too soon?

The last 2 women I've had conversation with online have ghosted me after about a dozen messages asking if they'd rather text instead of going through the app. I'm not a huge fan of Snapchat but apparently that's what everyone is using these days. What am I doing wrong? The last few that I've met up with in person have offered to give me their Snapchat info after the same amount of messages.

The only time I ghost guys is when they said something to me that put me off, for example they tell me that they just came out of a relationship. Then when they ask for my number I know they are romantically interested. I then feel bad about saying no and explaining why I don’t want to give my number so I rather just ghost them. Does this make sense?

Sure there is. Anything funny is viable. Or anything that requires engagement to find the reveal. E. g. a typial "What did the..." style joke would very likely get a response.

I probably wouldn't ask for someone's number after going over our professions though. You want to pick a moment where interest is rather high. That usually isn't the super mundane topic.
