Why are many military men so childish?

I once dated a guy in the army and he was always so full of energy and playful. Even when it was time for bed, he would still be wanting play and goof around. I remember when I used to visit him on the base (I hated visiting) his friends acted very similar to him and they curse a lot at each other and act like high school kids.

It's a coping mechanism. Between the stress of the job and the rigid discipline, the servicemembers need ways to vent. In a civilian workplace you can talk shit about your boss all the time. In the military you cannot.
