I heard my husband call a male coworker baby. ?

Question

This is something he calls me. No one else in my 20 years of knowing him. When I asked him about it he said he had no idea why he said it and that’s how he talks (well that’s news to me)
he also went into a homophobic rant. Now he’s acting like the argument never happened and being super nice. He’s always puts me on a pedestal and been so good to me (almost too good to be true type of good!) all these years.
I don’t know what to think or do.

It's not a big deal. About 30 years ago, I used to joke around with my buddies in grad school. We'd talk like Hollywood executives... "Todd, baby! Listen to me! The eigenvalues of the vibration modes are all in the left-half plane, so the system is stable!"

Ok thank you. Took me off guard since he did it twice to the same guy (close in age). Husband is 60.

Calling somebody, "baby" was very common in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s even if it wasn't a term of endearment between opposite genders. Think of it like "Bro".

For instance, in the 1970s, there was a cigarette marketed to women called "Virginia Slims". The tagline for those cigarettes was "You've come a long way, Baby." because this was a women's cigarette - slim and modern and independent from men which was a big issue during the "Women's Movement" during the 1960s and 970s.

But, even in the 1960s, it was common to say "Baby" just like it was to say "Man".
Remember the first debate between Biden and Trump. Trump behaved like a baby of course and Biden said "C'mon, Man!" That's from those times.

Your husband is only 2-3 years older than me. He understands exactly what I am talking about. The other men here offering opinions are younger and have no life experience during those times like your husband and I do. This is why, to them, they were puzzled, but, to me, I LOLed - both at everyone's understandable cultural ignorance and the offered opinions.
