Why is "Fat" Considered So Offensive?

Today people get offended by the word fat, as if it was the same as calling someone the "N" word or "F*ggot," but it's not! You get fat because you take in more calories that you work off, it's not like being a different race or sexuality where you have no choice and cannot change that about yourself. People get angry when someone says there not attracted to obese people because of their size but it's their choice!!! You can choose to lose weight whenever you want, just eat less or go to the gym!! It's not the same as saying "Oh he's not attractive because he asian" You can't change your race, YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR WEIGHT!!!!

Just to clarify I'm not fat-shaming I'm saying we should stop treating the word "fat" or "obese" the same way as the "N-Word"

Thank goodness a non-native person to the USA thought this, because I do as well (even though I don't say it).

Anyway, I think it's because people don't want to be responsible about THEMSELVES. *smh* Yes, some of it is hormones (where's @redeyemindtricks when you need her... she can find the link where she basically does a full write up about it). Most of it is personal choice. Let me be clear, the choices aren't easy. That's the thing though, most people want to take the easy way out. Doesn't help any with the media.

That's because being fat is generally something that no one wants to be, so if you call a fat person fat they would probably call it "offensive" because they don't want to accept the truth.

Interesting points, good take Kikka - I have always viewed the word "Shaming" in the terms of "Fat Shaming" or "Slut Shaming" as being critical of someone without approaching it carefully - In the case of "Fat" there may be reasons he/she is fat but if there is no real reason I would approach it along the lines of "It is not really healthy to be like that" or "You would feel a lot better if you lost weight" - With slut shaming you are imposing your own moral judgement on people.
To get back to the premise of your take, yes to class "Fat" as the same as "N******" or "F*****" would be extreme but that said I wouldn't be a fan of "Fat Shaming" either.

It's because being fat is negative, and something that people don't want to be associated with. It's also that most people use it as an insult when it's simply an adjective to describe a body type.
