Depression is an Illness, not just a bad mood. Everyone needs to realise this.

There was some sad news in my local newspaper recently. I guy I went to school with committed suicide. I didn't know him that well but it was still sad to hear. The news got people at work talking about suicide. A few of the people at work were critical of someone who takes their own life. Calling it selfish as it hurts the families. Also they were saying "look at people who die of cancer, they would do anything to be able to live". I argued that depression is an illness, just like cancer but I got told I was wrong.

Nobody wants to kill themselves. It's just that depression takes over and they feel there is no other way out. If narrow minded people who think depression is just someone being in a "bad mood". That makes people who are depressed reluctant to seek help. As they feel ashamed to admit to it.

Some people still think that depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They're wrong. Depression is a real illness with real symptons, and it's not a sign of weakness or something you can "snap out of" by "pulling yourself together".

Depression is an Illness, not just a bad mood. Everyone needs to realise this.

If everyone accepted that depression is a serious illness, then maybe people who suffer from it will be more likely to seek help and be cured, before it's too late.

Depression is an Illness, not just a bad mood. Everyone needs to realise this.
