Is there anything I can do to help this girl?

A 13 year old girl who is one of the tops in the acrobatic gymnastics street display we're doing for charity fell on her head during practice a few days ago and hasn't spoken or moved since she went to hospital.

I think her parents are hoping for the best but it looks like the result might be that she ends up being quadriplegic. It's really upset everybody, especially because she is so young and it could have happened to any of us.

I've been to see her today and she can't hear me when I speak to her :( I'm the lead gymnast in the acro troupe and I want to do something for her. If anybody has any ideas of something we could do for her or could even include her in their prayers I would be so grateful.

Well, my mother (she's no more, passed away last year) had a fire accident in 2011, was a diabetic, couldn't take the strain of the skin grafting surgery, developed bed sores, and had a partial stroke. But she was a fighter. At first, she couldn't even lift her left hand and leg. But she received physiotherapy, and exactly 2 months after her stroke, I was at her bedside when she started moving the fingers of her left hand. It was such a wonderful day. It was nothing short of a miracle for me. She went on to recover very well and lived for 2 years after that. She travelled abroad, used to cook for us (she loved cooking). Even a day before she got admitted to the hospital, she cooked for us. She died of cardiac arrest. She tried her best, but age was not on her side.

What I'm trying to tell here is that a younger person in the place of my mother (she was 71 when she passed away) would've recovered much more easily. So, ur younger friend has more chances of recovering fully. I also had a teacher who had a severe head accident at the age of 12 and went onto become a corporate trainer in English. So, there is hope for that girl.

U guys are doing a great job already of helping her family. My prayers are with her and her family.

I'm so very sorry :( I read this and my heart really goes out to you, what a wonderful inspiration of a mother you were blessed with! I'm sorry she had to struggle but she seems to get the most out of life as she could and I hope that is a comfort to you and your family :)
She must be so proud of you and you of her :)

I hope she will get better somehow, the worst possible scenario is brain damage and if not that she will possibly be quadriplegic. It just seems to tragic :( But thank you so much for your prayers!

... I don't know what to say. She have barely started life yet, and then something like this happens, I really hope for the best possible outcome even if that probably wouldn't good enough in the end. I wish there was something I actually could do, it's always just words isn't it? : /

Do you know about her familys economical situation? Depending if it's good or bad, they might need different support, as there's not much you can do to support her directly in that state, her family is the best bet. Help out the family and her family have more time for her.

How much is it realistic that she will recover? Will she be able to talk, communicate and think clear again? If so this is worth more then anything. If she will be able to do that, she is very likely to continue a happy life even if she isn't able to move alone.

Sorry about your friends accident you got my prayers
i think it's best to maybe set up a fundraiser of some
sort cause God only knows the family are going need money
but you really need wait to you see her prognosis but either
way the family will need money to help for medical expense's
it's so sad she is young for this to happen age 13 she has
her whole life ahead of her but i know there is legit websites
to set up fundraisers also you can maybe take a picture of
her and put a fundraiser in local stores where you live
i am so sorry Amy for your friend and hope she recovers
i pray God will be walking with her i don't know what
religions you all are but lay things in Gods hands or
whatever religious beliefs you all have but let it be Holy:) xD

Thank you so much Darren :) It's so sad because the display we're doing incorporates all round gymnasts aswell as acro and I don't think she was fully prepared for it, she was tired and struggling and I feel like this could have been prevented. I wish there was something I could have done or could have caught her :( I appeciate your words and prayers so very much and I know her parents are religious which is why I asked :) The fundraisers in stores are a great idea, we need to get as many people to do something for her as possible I think.

My heart and thoughts are with both of you... I think the best you can do is be there for her and her parents. Not only in the first days when the emotion is still "hot" but also in the coming weeks.
And also: always be positive when you see either girl or parents. Positiveness around people gives them moral. Let them feel the support for their girl will be teamwork just as gym is teamwork.
And I'm convinced all you GAG friends will join me in saying "thumbs up"!

You got the prayers. They're going to need money, and lots of it. Anything you can do for a fund drive would be helpful. In the short term, make sure their lawn is mowed, newspapers/mail picked up. Meals can be delivered.

Thank you yadda! :) that means a lot. I had been trying to think of raising money for her or at least her family, perhaps after this event we can put something together again and have the money be donated to her. I just hope to God it isn't too bad.

Really short term, anything that you'd have to do to run a house would be something they need help with. Aside from the emotional support. My FIL died of lung cancer, and the things that stick out to me were like a couple from the church showing up unnanounced and unasked to mow my MIL's lawn. They cut the grass and left.

That makes sense, I guess really they just need someone to take the weight off of their shoulders right now. I'll rally everyone together and offer what we can over the next few weeks :) I am very sorry about your father in law Yadda :( that was a thoughtful thing that couple did, not intruding or anything but just trying to do something practical to help.

Yeah, it was very kind of them. Especially since the husband is moderately famous (sportscaster) and worth millions. They could have easily just sent someone over.

I do not believe prayers will help, but I know they won't hurt, so please include her in your prayers.

Pray for her and continue to be her friend. Although she may not be able to hear you, she will be able to feel your presence. :)
