I would only drink protein shakes after lifting. Drinking one after cardio defeats the purpose after you've burnt all of those calories.
I was told that they're only good after an intense workout like lifting or cycling. Eat a piece of fruit if you didn't pre workout
I do much cardio minus any lifting.
I NEVER drink protein shakes = waaay too many calories for ME personally.

It's fine, most protein shakes have little carbs and fat. You want at least.5-1g per body weight of protein a day if you're looking to put on muscle.
Protein shakes are only good to help you hit your daily protein needs. If you track your calories and you see that you haven't met the desired amount of protein then use a protein shake. Don't use protein shakes as a placebo like most people do.
Eat real food
Yes they are good.
