How are the growth spurt of very tall women?

Since it's already hard for a girl to be 5'9 and even rarer for find one that's close to 6ft, this has me wondering.

Were the amazon women or tall models always tall even as kids or did were they probably the awkward shorter girl as as a kid that experienced delayed puberty (as a result of both genes and probably even having a delayed period, later than usual)?

So in your opinion how did they get to that height? I got reunited last year with a long time friend from middle school. She used to be the shortest female in the family. She went from a 13 year-old girl that was 5'5 to suddenly a 5'11 woman that's now 21 years old.

Also, she did said she got her period shortly after her 16th b-day. I guess that must play a role too... delayed puberty in certain girls, which might make them taller than usual.

^depends on where u live actually:

^in dinaric alps and netherlands gals r 5'7"-5'7.5" on average... so there's a big chance to find a gal who's 5'9" or above (like 3 out of 10 gals)... and i believe like 8-10% to find a 6' gal.. :)

^depends on their genes basically... or their nutrition by some degree (rumor's if u were malnourished during yer puberty u won't fully grow)... anyway most gals stop growin at 15-16... they start puberty earlier than boys but they stop earlier as well... but just like da boys it depends on da person... some gal might be 5'5" at 13 and stay 5'5" at 17... or another gal might be 5'2" at 13 and end up 5'8" at 17 ;)

most accurate way to tell how tall will end-up a person's to check his/her parents (other relatives r included as well) height... chances r a dude'll get his dad's height and a gal her mom's height u know... but still it's not fully accurrate...

^ya in females period might play some role as well indeed... :)

yeah her family were always very tall members, even the females.
Long ago when she used to be the 5'5 girl, her parents were respectively 5'10 and 6'4.

at the time she seemed like the shortest member in the family but not really... she was really a future tall woman but just not developed at the time

5'10" her mom i guess? then ya it was pretty obvious she'd end up 5'11"... :)

yes her mom is 5'10... a great height many of us wish to have; oh well.

actually from wot i've noticed most gals who r 5'10" complain about their height and they wish they were shorter coz it's more "cute"...

In my experiences, tall women are usually tall when they're younger too. I know some guys who had crazy growth spurts, like ~5'5" to 6'2" in two years, but I've never known any girls who go through that. My mom and my sister were always tall growing up (now 5'11" and 5'8"). There was a girl at school who was always tall and ended up being about 6'3".

Then I guess my friend is a weird case. I remembered her as a 5'5 girl and then when seeing her again 7 years later, suddenly I was now looking at a fully grown 5'11 woman. She stopped growing at age 18, exactly 2 years after her delayed period.

Well, growing by that amount in 7 years doesn't really count as a growth spurt. It would be different if it were 2 years.
