I used to go once a month to donate to the point where myself and the techs were practically friends. Then I started having issues with my hematocrit level which I think is the test they give you before you can donate to make sure you won't pass out or whatever if you do---it's been low the last 5 times I've tried to donate so THEY have rejected me and I'm kind of tired of driving 40 minutes to get to the center (because the one near my house really sucks) only to hear, not today, try back in a month. I've tried all their remedies and no improvement so there is nothing left to say that I haven't tried.
I don't. I remember a long time ago when I had my tonsils removed they had to do some blood tests as well and I remember that being a bad experience. While I don't have problems with needles in general, I won't go through that process unless I really have to.
Have an opinion?
I donate 6 times a year and have so for almost 20 years.I started with donating when I had to serve in the military (because donors got 24 hours off duty 😂) and it turned out, I have bloodtype 0- , which is the universal-donor-type, so I kept going. There is always a shortage on 0-
I used to donate platelets once a month and sometimes double red cell. I have to drive 40 mins or so to do it so sometimes that gets in the way.
I donate every 6 months which is the most I’m allowed to
I’ve been slacking this year, but I usually do it as often as I can
