Why muscle soarness and injury with low reps?

I've done some "girly" group classes... you know... low weight, high reps. Or I do lighter weights... and I end up hurting or injury and it takes a long time to heal. I like the class, cardio and exercise, but if I get hurt it sets me back too much. So I wonder why and if anyone else had this problem adn solved it?

Now I've been enjoying quite a bit of chocolate lately and so I wonder if I'm getting some estrogen and that is causing problems...
