Well, they keep saying that because there's no real time schedule. The defining factor is basically how fast you heal. If you're not in pain, then it should be perfectly fine to go out and be active again.
I had my wisdom teeth removed and it took a couple of days of rest before I was able to get up and walk around normally and about a week or so more until the swelling on my face went down and I felt okay to go out again.
Until you are out of pain, you should be consuming liquids and very soft foods like mashed potatoes, soup, yogurt, etc. You should not be chewing anything yet.
Once you don't need pain medication anymore, it's okay to move to soft, chewable food like bananas, oatmeal, soft bread, and stuff like that.
I waited until the stitches were gone and the holes in the back were closed before I incorporated all of the crunchy, hard food back in my diet like nuts and hard fruits and vegetables.
Even if it was minor, you still just had surgery in your mouth and it's important not to put too much stress on it. Also, remember to keep it clean so it will heal faster. You said it was five days ago so give yourself at the very least another two days of relaxing before you start going out again, and eat only what you feel comfortable chewing at the moment.

It took me about a week and half, I had both taken out at the same time. I started witb liquids, and then I carried on with them, and then I tried some bread, that hurt still so I carried on with liquids...f***ing annoying I tell ya, there I was having to watch my family eating a roast..cor it was torture...and all I could have was f***ing tomato soup!...yummy =(
It will go back to normal, and you'll be eating hard food again, I feel your pain..
for me it took about 2 weeks to heal completely, I had all 4 of mine taken at once, that was about 4 years ago. all depends how fast you heal, and yeah I remember starving for those 2 weeks I lost about 10-20 pds and my stomach shrunk to almost nothing, and I couldn't even make a belly anymore :(
i eventually got better though, stretched out my stomach, took a little while eating slighty bigger amounts. when I was healing I could barely eat soup. soup and sometimes noodles that was it.
After we have our wisdom teeth removed, lour lives becomes stark and undefined; a maze of half-images and unrelinquishing horror. Things that were once soft have become hard, and the lines of purpose once clearly drawn, fade to meaninglessness. Truth becomes blurred and borderless and the light fights against the grey proxy. But, cheer up, in another couple weeks you can eat corn-on-the-cob again! Hooray for that!

15 to 20 days you will be used to eating a little further up in your mouth. after a week you should be back to normal with everything else. sometimes it takes a couple months to learn how to talk normal and not have that airy open wistley sound come from your mouth. that is the only aggrevating thing that takes time to get over-unless you count forgetting you had those back teeth out while biting a dorrito-OUCH!
I think you shoul just go back to normal when you feel up to it. Maybe you should call your doctor/dentist and ask them.
try asking your dentist.
