When doing intermittent fasting, is it still important to do calorie counting?

I've been eating during an 8-hour window each day and fasting for the remaining 16 hours. However, by the time my eating time arrives, I'm starving and I always end up going over my calorie limit.

Is this ok, since my body has time to burn it off during the 16 hours in between? Or do I still need to stick to eating only a small amount?

During normal all-day-eating, I usually tried to stay under 1400 calories per day. I'm hoping it's ok for me to eat more now that I've added fasting to my lifestyle.
