Are protein shakes effective without lifting weights?

So I have been doing home workouts and have not been using weights as I don’t have any. I workout 3x a week and I have a protein shake after each workout. Do you think this is ok if I don’t use weights I need to add muscle? I don’t each chicken as I can’t get any yet for a while. Am I doing this right or wrong please can someone give me more info.
