Could too much protein be causing weight gain?

I recently started a new diet I guess youd call it and the first week says 80-100 g of protein, 60-80g of carbs and fat less than 30g, I'm only on day 3 and I feel bigger than ever , could the sudden increase in protein be causing weight gain. I eat a mostly vegan diet so prior to this my protein was low, my carbs were ridiculously high and i was eating probably 75-100g of sugar a day of not more ( I love candy), but past 2 days I've been able to keep sugar under 30mg, but I feel bigger than ever so I dont get it?
Could too much protein be causing weight gain?
