Paralyzing anxiety - any "remedies"?

I was at work and out of nowhere I was overcome with it - my heart suddenly started racing, I got hot, I was sweating, couldn't breathe. My chest got so tight I literally thought I was having a heart attack, a stroke, something. I was very close to calling the ambulance on myself.

I went and sat it out in the bathroom. It took 40ish minutes to pass. It was so uncomfortable and felt disgusting. All I could do was hug myself and close my eyes because the small bathroom also started making me incredibly nervous.

How do others deal with it?
