How long will it take to get in shape?

I've started going on long walks with my dog about 5 nights a week. I looked it up on mapmyrun, and my route is 8.5 kilometers. During the day I only eat fruits and vegetables and a regular dinner at night. I'm not fat but I'd like to lose a bit of weight all over and tone my thighs and calves and make them a little bit smaller. Is this a good start, and how long will it take me to lose weight, especially on my legs, if I keep following this plan. Also, is there anything else I should be doing?
