Has anybody ever had cancer, or do you know somebody who did?

How did you find it? How much time did it take to grow to dangerous levels? Do antioxidants really work? Did green tea help with your cancer? Did you have radiation or chemo therapy? Was radiation or chemo therapy more painful than the cancer itself? During your ordeal did you have to change your diet significantly (other than the fact that you were generally less hungry)? Were you bedridden the entire time?

Did the USA health care system treat you with dignity and respect? Did having cancer reveal to you how good or bad the USA health care system is? Did you develop a personal bond over a particular nurse or doctor who was practically your angel? How did cancer change you?

Good luck finding someone who hasn't known anyone with cancer.

It really depends on the individual and the type of cancer they have.

My grandfather had esophageal cancer, which has a low survival rate. They caught it early, removed the tumors, and he went through chemo. He responded well to treatment for a while, but he died three years later. And he mainly changed his diet because he wasn't able to swallow the food he used to eat.

But my mother's aunt has had a brain tumor since my mom was younger. There's nothing the doctors can do about it, so she's just carried on with her life all this time. It affects her memory, and she's pretty frail, but she's in her 80s.

And my cousin was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer, which also has a low survival rate. She saw three doctors for pain in her stomach in the last three years. They found cysts on her ovaries, but none of them did anything about it. And now the cancer's spread to her other organs. There's a good chance she won't survive, and she's only 25. The health care system didn't work in her favor.

I've known quite a few people with cancer, and all their cases have been different. Most of them went through chemo, which was painful, and their doctors fought as hard as they did.

I have had at least 3 relatives die of cancer. But they died when I was too young to know the reality of the situation. I wasn't close to those relatives as a child either.

My uncle had cancer. It was pretty scary, but it was a benign tumour. so he had surgery to take it out. generally he now eats healthier and drinks green tea every day. He didn't get chemo. His diet doesn't consist of macdonalds everyday (he's working all the time)-so this just verified that my mom is alright right lol-she tells me to eat healthy every day and I love green tea, so his bout with cancer, just re-affirmed that I was doing the right thing by taking care of myself. etc.

My uncle had cancer. He was quite a bit older, so he was in a hospice care center for his last few weeks. Everybody there took great care of him. Most of the people I knew who had it were older so I don't know too many details about chemo or anything, but I'm pretty sure they were taken care of as far as the whole health care issue goes. I never heard anything negative about the health care stuff.

my mom had cancer at one point but she got it seen to right at the beginning. so it really didn't do much to her. I'm glad she is still here with us.
