Maybe he just found out that someone in his family was diagnosed with cancer and realized that it was genetic to him (that he can get it easier because of his genes) and are starting to worry about it? But as rachiee said, its nothing you can do until he decides to tell you, if there's even anything to tell. If you are worried and feel like you should so something, do some research about how to support people with cancer and such. And if the day comes you will be prepared. But really, until he says anything different you shouldn't worry about it.

You can try to talk to him but unless he wants to talk about it then he obviously wont. You can't force him to tell you. I think you should just leave it be and be there for him as a friend regardless. Wait til he wants to open up. But there's no reason to worry/stress out over something you aren't sure of.
