If you were shipped something that is not what you ordered but is much more valuable what do you do?

I would send it back as I'm honest, usually though what happens is like this one time I got this package for a guy, it had his address on it, we had the same address except I was N he was S, etc... I drove to UPS explained what happened and they said they'd send it to him.

A few days later I got it delivered again, it had the guys number on it, so I called him and told him and he didn't care, didn't want to talk to me. So I thought, well UPS can't get it right, the guy don't want it.

I opened it and it had some gorgeous shoes that were almost my size, and hey I can always use another pair of shoes.

Funny thing is two months later the guy called me back, apologized and asked if I still had the package.

I had that happen before too. I called amazon and they told me to keep it or dispose of it.

One time I opened a package and it was an antique butter churn. Turns out the package had my neighbors name. I dropped it off with an apology note for opening it.

It Depends on the particular circumstance. Legally you aren’t under obligation to return it, but it may be the right thing to do. It might also have been an automatic upgrade due to stock availability at the warehouse. If you are concerned, call them and ask.


However if I didn’t order it at all then I’ll call them when I have the spare time. If they want me to pay them to return it, it’s a scam and they’ve lost their goods.


If they’ve repeatedly shipped me shoddy parts or been late ⏰ delivering or not refunded my returns… I might chalk it up to karma and simply ignore it

This happened to me. It was a sports card I ordered through e-bay. It was a much more valuable card then the I original purchased. I contacted the seller right away. He was very happy. He and his wife are older and they support themselves by selling his sports memorabilia collection. His wife helps him and she accidently sent me the wrong card.

Honesty is the best policy.
Its happened to us before. We ordered 2 greenly 3/4 emt offset benders for our business a few years ago. We got sent 3. We called and reported it to amazon. They told us to keep the extra one. Which rocks because theyre $300.

I guess it depends on the value and the item. A $10 item has 10x as much value as a $1 item, but probably not worth the postage to have sent back.

If it's expensive or something custom that someone else might have ordered, I would call and let the merchant decide what they want to do about their mistake.

I would probably do the right thing and send it back.. I mean if it went the other way and they sent something less valuable than what you paid for, you'd expect them to do the right thing and either send you the correct item or reimburse your money, right?

I contact the company that shipped it to me and work with them to return it. I would only keep it if they're not interested in getting it back, which they sometimes decide to do because the return might be more trouble than not.

I'd call them and tell them I'm keeping it but still need my original order. Like at a restaurant you get the wrong plate of food 9 times out of 10 they will that plate for you because they can no longer offer it to anyone else. Unless they're wasteful and just throw it out, so not cool. With products though if you opened it hopefully you can keep it. Honesty above all else though 😉

I was shipped a much more expensive surf rack instead of the skate rack i ordered. I emailed the man honestly and he said to keep it and that they’d mail my skate rack too

If you’ve had a terrible day, keep it because you probably deserve it... any other day, send it back.. it seems like the right thing to do, and you know karma and stuff..

Legally it is yours and they still have to send you the right item. I've offered to return such errors before from Amazon. They always turn me down and tell me to keep it.

I would try to be honest first and then keep it if the company has settled to send out another. This happened to someone I know with a couch! Their couch went to another persons house and the people got to keep the couch if they wanted it.

just report it to the authorities and they'll probably just let you keep that, and send you your ordered thing

I will keep it without using it for few days and if the delivery man didn't came back then I will send it back.

It’s happened a lot. I’ll keep it on the porch for a couple days. Sometimes the delivery company will come back for it.

If it's a small business, I would notify them and ask them what they want to do about it. If it's a huge company, they can eat it

I ordered pajamas for my daughter and they sent 2 sets of the same pajamas. I called them and told them about the mistake. They said to keep both sets.
So I would call them and tell them what they did
