As a person who grew up severely underweight, I disagree with most of this Take. This may be your own experience, but most of the things you mentioned have nothing to be with being skinny. It has more to do with your figure and form.
I actually don't relate to a lot of it but I wanted to reach out to all kinds of skinny people. I am actually a curvy girl with 32 C cups and hips 10 inches bigger than my waist but as a "skinny person" with a small frame and 24 inch waist, I get shamed for being thin and I have a hard time finding jeans that fit my waist snug yet aren't tight on my thighs and thats amongst other things I can relate to but not really everything. But I want to reach out to all kinds of skinny in this Take because I have skinny friends and I see how its like for them. And there was a period where I actually had nothing going for my body curve wise until I turned 16 (late bloomer I know and I hated it the whole time thinking I was never gonna get curves) even though I only put on a few more pounds.
You want to talk late bloomer? I was an A cup until my freshman year in college and in a month, I went up to a 34C. I'm a 36DD now and they're just getting bigger. Sucked ass.
I actually don't remember a lot of skinny shaming when I was younger. I was just always mistaken for a child when I was a teenager. Hell, I'm 26 and 170lbs. and people still think I'm a teenager. People were more surprised that I ate so much and weighed so little. The first time I was the proper weight was when I graduated high school in 2008. I was 5'2 and 118 pounds.
Yeah well I guess I am not really much of a late bloomer. I just tend to think I am because my sister is way curvier than me and she is 14 and I have friends around 14-15 with way more developed bodies. Also I am not really concerned about blooking anymore. Want to keep the weight I have except add on pounds of muscle. Muscle adds shape and can often be heavier but not always. Its soooo hard with my metabolism but I am dedicated to it. Dont care if it takes years
Muscles adds definition, not shape. Whatever you're shaped like now, muscle will make it obvious. you should still work out thought for the simple fact that it's good for you.
Well my butt did get bigger so horray for me!!! And ya your shape is your shape regardless but still, if you work hard enough you can make some improvements like I am now. I used to have a heavier and wider torso and now I am more even so don't say you can't change your shape. You can, its just limited greatly but you still can do it
My shape and figure has improved. I may not be very curvy but my torso got less top heavy and my butt is bigger. My thighs are two inches bigger and so are my hips from how they were several months ago. I lost fat so my breasts went from a 32 DD to a 32 C and my back is more defined and less... Fatty so yay
As a very skinny guy, I haev nearly all of these struggles. People don't seem to understand anything about skinny people and can be outright jealous. Though they should know that being very skinny isn't all that.
Exactly! It isn't. You have people jealous over you and mistreat you because of it and others who simply just don't like the skinny look and that hurts sometimes.
I can't and probably won't ever relate to any of this. And let it be known that if I had to choose between fat and skinny, I'd choose skinny. Every single time.
As a natural skinny person who can loose weight without trying and struggles to gain or even maintain his weight I really can't relate to this. Only a handful of those ring true for me. The rest I've never encountered.
skinny is not quite the ideal shape - curvature with some slight muscle tone is. however you are ten times hotter than large women and this is how both genders will view you.
I just can't help being skinny. I lift, run, and do all kinds of home workouts and play sports and boy do I love it all!!! Especially runners high (like when I ran a mile yesterday :)) and try to maintain an average of around 1,850-1,980 calories which is what I need for my height, age, and activity level but I am still skinny.
Because she has the exact right proportions. However, there's plenty of more naturally thin ladies as well, that are healthy and pull off the look without being so thin they look anorexic. The women you posted are good examples and I don't think if we are serious that skinny shaming is as widespread a phenomena as fat shaming, especially for women.
Well skinny shaming is out there as well. I am a victim of it and girls who don't like you act like they are better than you because they have more curves and my lack of big curves was thrown in my face when rejected before. I wish I was a lot more curvier. I actually was a 32 (petite frame) DD when I wasn't in shape (couldn't run much at all and couldnt even do one push up) because I was carrying loads of fat. Now that I have struggled and struggled to gain weight with exercise, not only have I gained a bit more weight due to merely muscle but I lost my boobs. They are still there but I miss my DDs
'Now that I have struggled and struggled to gain weight with exercise'
Have you tried a calory increase combined with resistance training? Running burns away a lot of fat/muscle. Resistance training improves muscle and actually burns fat too because of the increased metabolism.
'I wish I had those proportions.'
I wouldn't worry: the vast majority of women do not.
Actually I have gained muscle through running. I used to think running didn't aid you in muscle gains but the butt is the number one important "locomotive muscle" in running. Thats why you often see sprinters with big butts. In fact sprinting requires a lot of muscle and I love to run and more specifically run hard. Increasing my pace through getting in better shape and increase in calorie intake has helped me a lot but my metabolism works so well I remain thin. But I am gradually working on getting thicker
I lift. In fact I prefer to lift the heaviest I can. But don't talk bad about my running. I love to run and because I have gotten into a lot better shape I now experience that runner's high and it is absolutely wonderful. Not to mention I am liking my butt more. I used to not run much before because I would always get stitches and dizzy often but now I love it. You should really look up how important the butt is when running, more specifically sprinting and long distance but mainly sprinting. Its what holds our legs up and propels us with the power to move faster.
I avoided running as much as possible both due to lack of being in shape and all the talk about how it doesn't help with muscle gains. But now that I run more and am in better shape, its increased my thigh and butt gains haha... They say most people don't have steong glutes and when you run and don't feel it in your butt its because your body compensates for the weaker muscles. I know all about it. When I ran before and squatted I would always experience soreness in my legs instead of my butt. But with more focous on using my glutes in different activities such as running and squatting, I am seeing the progress I want even though I know I will never have a body like that girl. But any improvement I will take with open arms
yes, but sprinting is a much more anaerobic form of exercise than typical running. sprinters often incorporate very intense forms of resistance training into their workouts, sometimes they are even hardcore Olympic weightlifters (snatch, jerk, clean, etc.). as for running, yes running can build muscle tone I don't deny but it's very slow, minimal growth compared to what you get from weightlifting. I get that you probably don't want to be humongous but if you are not happy being skinny (or maybe you are very happy with your body and how you look, I don't know) and want to fill out those curves, resistance training is a very effective tool - just not the only one. but I think for you running is a passion and you don't have time for other exercise. I get that. I'm into yoga and mma: I do these every day and sometimes my body is killing me. when I try to do squats and deadlifts on top what's already a very active routine it feels like I have to crawl to the gym.
I understand why you have such a mistaken belief in running. I had the same belief before until I discovered the truth. Running actually is very good for everyone and helps in your gains. It has its downsides but losing muscle is not due to running but sinply lack of proper calories and nutrition. Running for the most part requires a lot of muscle. In fact my stupid ass should have remembered the fact that my Dad was very athletic and loved to run and he always had a big butt for a guy and thick thighs. Not to mention my 15 year brother has gotten thicker as a runner now.
Some of those are true about running but it definitely won't burn muscle. You are thinking of the very hard core long distance runners. I mean I love the mile (not until this month haha) and its a very good thing to run but I am talking about very hardcore long diatance runners. But no it won't burn muscle. In fact my little sister and I had a discussion about how her big booty enabled her to beat me at races when we in middle school and how it all makes sense about what I discovered.
well, the truth is that actually it's not just running that breaks and wears down muscle. weightlifting does as well, so do all forms of exercise. you probably know this already but the growth is triggered by the body's need to repair microtears in the muscle caused by contraction. that's where nutrition comes in. running does develop muscle, but mainly slow-twitch fibres, not fast twitch, unless we are talking sprinting and the development of muscle is mainly strength/endurance not aesthetic.
and yes, nutrition helps but the fact is that it's already very difficult to get the calories needed. you need time, preparation, ingredients, knowledge about nutrition and a large stomach. 2kcals is nowhere near enough for a man. even for a woman it's a push and it's quite likely you have a high metabolism, especially if you are doing running on top of workouts. if you do running you need even MORE nutrition than you normally would.
Nope. I actually just noticed today I made gains and I have been running more including lifting and doing other kinds of exercises for a full body workout (squats, sit ups, push ups, lunges, ect). I am new to this whole runner's high... And no I am not that happy with my body but I am happier than I was a week ago.
When I say running I am talking about running no more than a mile... In fact most days I run short fast distances. But I do love that mile though. Now I do I mean. I have been experiencing runner's high after completing a mile two days in a row first in my class this past week
But thanks for trying to be helpful. But I know what I am talking about when it comes to running. Oh and yes I have recently been increasing my calorie in take and protein and carb intake because of my activity level and metabolism. Doing very well so far
careful. this is often psychosomatic because realistically gains take much, much longer than a week. I often look a bit bigger after a workout: that's because blood is pumping through the muscles much faster than usual. sometimes I look and feel bigger with higher fluctuations of water in my body as well. if I'm doing a lot of exercise, I simply believe I *must* be making gains. I'm telling you this because it will breed unrealistic expectations for long term progress.
'I am talking about running no more than a mile'
Ok, that's fine. Try running on grass, gravel etc. it is better for the tendons: runners can have a lot of difficulties with their joints, especially if they are running on hard surfaces with low impact absorbing shoes. breathing through the nose is better for the lungs and oesophagus also but that can be tough to do if you are running hard.
Haha yes I know. But I haven't exercised today at all! I always use the weekend to do nothing because muscles need time off. In fact thats partly why others don't see any gains, they simply dont let their body get enough rest and off days. I only do stretching on the weekends. And yes I know about muscle looking bigger because of water retension and increase blood flow. Yesterday my arms got a lot bigger than they normally are as well as my thighs.
Trust me, I know I'll never look how I really want to look. Its just not naturally possible. I don't expect to ever get a very great physique. And actually I have been running for sometime now. Its only recently that I have been sprinting more.
Yeah I generally dont even run a mile more than once a week. I mean a lot of my workouts are equivalent to a mile or almost a mile when I am not actually running. And yeah I prefer running on a track.
Well you sound like you have researched this, so I don't have anything else to say but good luck.
'I don't expect to ever get a very great physique.'
I don't think that's true: you sound very committed and I have confidence in you that you will achieve your goals. You already have an attractive physique by the sounds of it, so I really would not worry what the other idiots say or think.
But if this is still the affects of this whole week's exercise... Oh boy haha. I dont feel sore anymore. I hope not... I am starting to like my butt and am eating a lot more now that I am increasing my workouts.
Sorry my phone often doesn't notify me with an update on a website such as thid. But yes thankyou, and I have been doing my research. And thank uou for your support. I just wanted to let you know I don't have high expectations about my results or the progress of it. I dont expect perfection. And yeah I am slowly progressing towards me not giving a fuck...
My phone is slow on notifying me on websites such as this I mean. I often have to refresh it. But thank you for your support and kindness. Glad we had a decent conversation about this whole thing instead of bickering pathetically online. I would have been like "hey I know what I say is true but I understand where you are coming from but jeez chill". I appreciate you not losing your cool because someone opposes you on here. I admire that.
Great Take, I know how you feel, I was skinny most of my life, but now I'm just average... most people were surprised when they found out that I'm a vegetarian - in fact, I've gained some weight when I became vegetarian, about 16 years ago.
It also depends on how many calories you consume. I am not a vegan or vegetarian and will never be one but since I have been trying to eat a lot more fruits and vegetables (I realized I wasn't getting the necessary vitamins from fruits and veggies) I have been getting a little bit more heavier. All the carbs in fruits and veggies can bloat you if you eat a lot already , even when you are skinny too
Actually, fruits and vegetables have more vitamins than any other food. As for the carbs, you should balance them, and drink lots of water, it's not very healthy to overdose on carbs.
Umm I know that they do contain more vitamins than any other food. I know about nutrition. And I k ow about drinking more water. In fact I feel better than ever and been experiencing that runner's high after a good run. Part of it is because I am in a lot better shape than I used to be but I think its also the fact I am eating more fruit and veggies. But yes I have been told that this high only gets more intense the more in shape you get :)
I'm a naturally thin person, I eat what ever I want and I have never gained any weight, I eat donuts and ice cream all I want because it doesn't make me fat. It's the only good thing about being naturally thin.
I exercise 5 days a week for 40 minutes... But nothing extremely vigorous. For the whole time at least. So will I have to do more than that later on? And I am not so concerned with being too skinny but rather as in not being a female with curves that make her a woman. I mean I obviously dont have nothing but I am nothing special to look at, thats for sure. And I am not underweight. For my height, I have a decent weight which is 114 pounds right now and I have about a 21 or 22% fat percentage (I forget the exact number from the doctor's)
Good take, having good genetics is really beneficial tho. I'm naturally really skinny and eat carbs like you guys wouldn't believe to grow, and 3,000-4,000 calories a day.
@IamLouise 200 g protein, about 450-500 carbs If you eat clean, you'll keep your abs. Eat the wholesome foods: beans, oats, rice, quinoa, whole wheat and grains For carbs And for protein, meat, eggs, cottage cheese, etc Yup, good luck brother👍✌
I am Daniel. And I embrace this post. I Mean Approve! Being skinny has its perks. I enjoy it every day. And I go to the gym and work out! Get at me bruh!
@thewanderingme oh hey why not just wear leggings :P they seem to be the ideal now lol. not as abrasive as jeans but if you're just going out, no need to worry too much.
@thewanderingme legging give room for flexibility but so do baggy pants. In fact my favorite thing to wear comfort wise is sweats or yoga pants. But tbh I dunno if you can relate but I have some jeans that fit my waist and are too tight on my thighs... Its not comfortable at all haha. But ya leggings are a great option. They can be cuter too with all those colorful ones you can get
It isn't the same for everyone. But some of this is true for me and others. I have gotten called a twig before and people are shocked of the amount I eat amongst other things. I don't relate to all of this though.
Oh and I am of a good weight for my height which is 114 and my weight range is 104-130. My fat percentage is also good. I believe its 21 or 22%. I forget. But yeah...

Well thats refreshing to hear :) And thank you! I will
Haha yeah! No problem! 😊 by the way I met your friend on here last night haha
What friend on here?
99percentangel lol I think her name is
Oh. That friend. Yeah she's cool
Lmao yeah she seems like it. You too 😜 haha
As a person who grew up severely underweight, I disagree with most of this Take. This may be your own experience, but most of the things you mentioned have nothing to be with being skinny. It has more to do with your figure and form.

I didn't see tour comment until now and I can surely tell you without a doubt that you are partially wrong
My life in one myTake... thank you for making this.
Your welcome! There are a bunch of typos and two things I actually wrote wrong... Grrr I wish I could edit this.
As a very skinny guy, I haev nearly all of these struggles. People don't seem to understand anything about skinny people and can be outright jealous. Though they should know that being very skinny isn't all that.

Say whatever you want, skinny people are always more favored in this world than fat ones. Your problems seem like first world problems to me.
Id rather be fat
No you don't. Believe me. People are 300% meaner to fat people than to skinny people.
this take is a bit silly.

right, so being skinny is good lol! I bet you are not even that skinny, just a healthy level. like the girls you posted in the article.
personally I prefer somebody like Kate Upton, or even better this woman

other types of exercise that are better for muscle tone (better than running): gymnastics, rowing, cycling, yoga, etc.

Great Take, I know how you feel, I was skinny most of my life, but now I'm just average... most people were surprised when they found out that I'm a vegetarian - in fact, I've gained some weight when I became vegetarian, about 16 years ago.
that's pretty weird. how old were you?
@thewanderingme I was about 23.
hmm, I'm vegan and have the hardest time keeping weight on.
@thewanderingme That's strange, I thought vegans have no problems with weight 😮
are you being sarcastic?
@thewanderingme No, of course not, it's just... most of the vegans I know always brag about their fitness and physical health.
yes. its east to stay skinny and healthy but hard to keep enough weight on for many vegans.
@thewanderingme I see, ok, thanks for the info.
It's the only good thing about being naturally thin.

that always shuts them up
Well, I like skinny girls... better skinny than fat (for everyone, not only girls).
#26 people wrap their fingers around ur wrist and jiggle it around talking about how small it is
5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 20, 22 and 24 😓
Nice mytake by the way
Give it time, naturally skinny people. Past 30, or 40 if you are lucky, you will have to start watching what you eat and consciously exercising more.
Not an ecto but I eat mad carbs too lol.
@Fearless_banana ya ectos require many carbs but I think for mesos you don't need as many
So how much carbs we talking and what you eat exactly?
And how do you prevent yourself from dirty bulking?
@IamLouise 200 g protein, about 450-500 carbs
If you eat clean, you'll keep your abs. Eat the wholesome foods: beans, oats, rice, quinoa, whole wheat and grains
For carbs
And for protein, meat, eggs, cottage cheese, etc
Yup, good luck brother👍✌
I love cottage cheese as I do my meat :) Never could be a vegetarian even if I tried
haha yeah fr!
I am Daniel. And I embrace this post. I Mean Approve! Being skinny has its perks. I enjoy it every day. And I go to the gym and work out! Get at me bruh!
You've really summed up our everyday's struggle pretty well!!!
I love this take <3
the name 😝😝
@suseel_sushi the face :P
hahaha 😂 that's the point.
@suseel_sushi Genius I was talking about you!!!
yes. that's the point. my dp is scary.
just curious on your first point, isn't a belt an option?
Yes, but the leg area will be a size too big and baggy and won't look right. Mabye guys can get away with that but girls jeans don't usually.
@mrsingle then I'm assuming there's no such thing as tight on the legs and loose on the waist sizing for a belt to be a viable option
better option is to just buy tighter jeans in the first place
@thewanderingme is tighter more uncomfortable?
only if their too tight. 'tighter' does not necessarily equal tight
@thewanderingme very true! maybe just slightly tighter is the solution for most women
well.. some women. I like 'em TIGHT! ;p
@thewanderingme does that do anything with your flexibility?
@thewanderingme Exactly, you don't like jeans being baggy.
it limits flexibility. that's what leggings are for ;)
@thewanderingme oh hey why not just wear leggings :P they seem to be the ideal now lol. not as abrasive as jeans but if you're just going out, no need to worry too much.
true. I actually usually wear leggings, but the post was about jeans, so I gave a suggestions for jeans. :p
They can be cuter too with all those colorful ones you can get
asker, isn't that what hip hugger type jeans are for? try so of those.
I'm a naturally skinny girl and I think this article is more fun then facts.
I forget. But yeah...
