Whats the point of learning hand to hand combat when the enemy is shooting at you with guns?

Although the situations would be rare in modern combat, there are situations in close combat --- say in an urban environment --- where martial arts training would be useful and maybe life-saving. It's not that hard to imagine a scenario, where maybe a soldier's weapon has jammed or he has run out of ammo, and knowing martial arts might give that soldier a chance against opposing fighters who might only have say a knife. The Marines are all about being ready for those kinds of situations, and I'm glad they are.0
