What do you call hell in your language?
What Guys Said 34
Annwn the mythological Welsh "otherworld" has certain paralels with hell. Sometimes it (or parts of the realm) are deep underground, extreamly hot and full of hiddeous beasts very similar to devils and daemons. There's also a tendency for people who give in to temptation or display excess pride to be lured there and punished in some way abstractly related to their wrongdoing.
With the English languague's habbit of absorbing words from other languagues you can legitimately consider the following short list to be English synonyms for hell (even though their portrayal may have been quite different in the origional language):
The Nether World
Limbo (The boundaries of Hell acording to Dante)
Dis (sometimes Discord)1
