What's a mental breakdown?

  • A very simple question with a huge range of possible answers. I think it is when the brain gets into an overload condition, when even the slightest issue can mare you feel bad. There is too much going on and any extra gives real problems.

Its like one of those big bottles used for wine making. Imagine one with a hole on the bottom and a running tap over the neck. say the bottle is half full with water coming in and water leaking out. If in and out are equal, the level stays constant and we are happy. If something goes wrong and the leak is stopped, the level increases slowly. Sudenly, when the neck is reached, the bottle quickly overflows and there's a huge problem.

This is what happens to your mind during a breakdown. Issues start to pile up without being resolved as you go along. Suddenly an issue happens that pushes your mind into that overflow condition.

The only way to resolve this is to stop the issues happening, which will give you time to dive to the bottom of the bottle to find out which issue is causing the problem. Deal with that biggie, and the rest will seem trivial again.
