  • Jack or Jacques was the name for the common man in the 18th century, the way we'd say 'John Doe' or 'Joe Bloggs' but with the connotation of the poor ordinary man of the streets and the peasantry.

    Jack on top is the world turned upside down, the social order inverted, craziness, chaos, disorder, destruction, revolution. At least that's what the people saying it usually mean by it.
