How do you get distracted from things you don't want to know about?

Right now the only way I can be distracted is taking sedatives or sleeping. And when I'm awake I feel awful, and I go back to sleep. I don't want to be drugged or sleeping all the time but I also don't want to feel like this. Sorry, I know this is not a personal diary or something like that, but I was wondering, how you get distracted from feeling like that?
