I saw one like 10 feet in front of me while we were all huddled under a train station while it was pouring rain as a boy in Yokohama. It was so loud that I felt ground and walls shake and it was like a bomb exploded in front of me (delayed sound). It actually made quite an impression on me because I wanted to run out and play in the rain while my father held me back, only to have this massive arc of lightning strike right in front of us.
One of the things I remember vividly, although this was ages ago, is that the arc was so much visibly wider than I ever imagined. It was massive. In the distance, I just see thin tendrils of light and imagined this thin little thing. Whereas seeing it up close, it's like an explosion of light and side that ripples all over the place. It was huge and sort of covered my whole peripheral range of vision with light followed by the most deafening sound while I remember the glass on windows nearby shook so loud that I thought something would break.

It's probably the most epic thing I ever experienced (and I've experienced level 7 earthquakes on the Richter scale). I don't think films capture the visceral nature of the effect so well. It was sensory overload for me when witnessing them up close.
It's storming where I am and I just heard, saw and felt the loudest and brightest lightning strike ever. I t made me jump 2 feet in the air and scream. It was terrifying. But also terrifyingly awesome. I am fascinated by lightning and it's properties. Such an exciting and beautiful aspect of nature. So dangerous too.
Yup! I was driving up in the mountains and it legit struck right next to the road. I shat myself
Thank you for mho ❤️
Yes I have seen many many lightning strikes as they happen I’ve seen them up close and personal I was a firefighter for the US forest service and I went to hundreds of lightning fires
Yes when i lived in my old house it struck the telephone linethat was located not far from my former neighbors housethe neighbor claimed to be a born again Christian but Icalled her the witch from hell.
I’ve seen Lightening strike a power line once. Basically just a lot of sparks.
Yup.In fact last year I think it was just about a block or so from where I live a lighting bolt came down and struck a tree, splintered it in half.
Yes I have , now I believe they are normal, normal, natural , and sometimes pretty, however they can be scary as well , especially when they are close I remember being a kid and being petrified
I haven't but my dad has been indirectly stuck by lightning 5 times so far.
A lot of people assume that lighting just comes down to the ground. but it is a 2 way arc. That's a whole lot of energy huh? Awesome stuff.
No I don't think so. I can imagine it being scary though.
Would you be scared if a tree right in front of you blew up to practically nothing like an explosion it’s pretty terrifying
Plenty of times I used to be scared as a child but now it's ok I like it
Yep. Thunderstorms aren't that uncommon where I live.
Yes. It’s so cool to see a streak of lightning across the sky.
How far was it from you?
Right outside my window about 4 ft
Now wow that puts it in a whole different perspective. No I've never seen it that close, although I've seen it hundreds of times.
I have a couple times. One of them just narrowly missed me by a few inches.
That's insane! How far away were you?
Right outside my window
Oh my goodness. Are you okay
Yep, I thought it looked awesome
Yeah plenty of times
Like a bomb went off at the same time you see the light
