um... sometimes I still knock on wood. For example I'll say something like " I have a pretty good immune system- I rarely get sick." Then after saying that, I feel like I just jinxed myself. lol And for some dumb reason I thought eating another boiled egg would help with my missing periods cause the last time I ate an egg I got my period right after so I thought omogosh it works but no- it doesn't. It was just a coincidence cause most of my life I had never missed a period until now. And strangely my mom thinks seeing a white horse is good luck and thinks she's gonna win some money-idk why. And she also still thinks seeing an owl is a bad omen... like someone is going to die which isn't true cause i look at owls on youtube all the time cause I think they are cute. Nobodies dead yet. She also thinks when ever she dreams about fish, someone is going to get pregnant and if she dreams about a kid someone is going to die. Really random stuff lol Also one time I pointed at someone's grave and my cousin told me to bite my finger cause it's bad luck or it will turn to stone or something. Same thing with pointing at star cause if you point at a star it will land on you're eye and you will get sty. Of course everyone use to believe stepping on crack would break your moms back so I guess that doesn't count. Just bunch fun silly stuff.
Shit I didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th! No wonder I got really sick today out of nowhere and I burned myself pretty bad. Not to mention I felt really sad all day for pretty much no reason like a suffocating cloud of gloom and I had no idea why. I felt really anxious and jumpy and scared and I could hardly focus. I was trying to read this book earlier and it was really weird (which was coincidentally Edgar Allan Poe, I just grabbed it at random) and this thing happened where I couldn't understand the words I was reading and it felt like I was floating in some dark void. It' was small things too, just everything that could have gone wrong, did. Anyway, that's pretty freaky. Obviously I'm extremely superstitious. I believe in a bunch of weird theories about reality and consciousness and the nature of the universe. I believe in luck, destiny (or rather "true will"), monsters, aliens (to some degree), almost all gods and goddesses, hidden treasures, most cryptids, magic, past lives, psychic powers, alternate dimensions, curses, out of body experiences, dreamwalking, the significance of dreams, divination, animism, reincarnation, really most everything relating to the "occult." I guess not so much superstition as unusual beliefs. I don't believe in astrology though. Or at least zodiac signs.
I forgot that tomorrow is Friday the 13th. I’ve always wondered what the stigma or fascination of Friday the 13th originated or came from. When I think of Friday the 13th, I’m frequently reminded of the series of slasher movies starring Jason Vorhees. If I had to guess the significance or meaning behind Friday the 13th, I’d probably answer something along the lines of describing the historical aspect of this date. Perhaps Friday the 13th has been a date in the past where something (s) horrific has happened. Maybe it’s a date that is associated with some horror in the religious texts, who knows? Personally, I do not believe in any superstitions, but if I’m honest, I sometimes feel as if karma is a real thing. My mother has always said that “What goes around comes around,” but I never believed that to be of supernatural causes. Nonetheless, I act and feel as if karma is real, so I’m careful in how I behave and act towards people and life in general. Even if I were to do something horrible and get away with it completely, the guilt in me would rot me from the inside out and I’d feel as if something horrible will befall me for what I have done. Now, perhaps this is a purely explainable biological phenomenon, but that doesn’t help in quelling my feelings towards believing that karma, whether supernatural or not, exists.
I'm the same way! You have a strong conscience.
Friday the 13th comes from the date Friday the 13th 1307 when members of the Knights Templar were arrested across Europe on the orders of King Philip the IV of france ( also known as Philip La Belle or King Philip the fair). The members of the order were falsely charged with many heresies and after 7 years. Of torture Grandmaster of the order Jacque DeMolay was brought forth in front of the cathedral at Notre Dame and burned at the stake. My guess is it probably gets it's "superstitious" roots in the fact that whilst he burned he called out to King Philip and pope Clement (who had not defended the order since they only answered to the pope) to meet him within a year before god's throne and answer for their crime. As luck would have it both died within a year.
Get down chitown! Fist bump.
Yeahh dawg! 👊
Not with any real seriousness. I mean some of them you just need to know the roots. Like supposedly the reason we say " god bless you" when you sneezed is it was believed in the middle ages/ dark ages that when you sneezed your soul came out of your body. So you said god bless you to make it go back in.
Can you imagine losing your soul so easily? To a sneeze?
No, but i can't imagine the average life expectancy to be around 30 years either. Considering death was all around people back then and education was so low it kind of makes sense.
Whilst I won’t walk under a ladder... doesn’t mean I’m necessarily superstitious... just that I won’t tempt fate.I think if I was too and then something bad happened I would believe it was that I walked under the ladder! However the ladder never needed to be there as what happened would have happened anyway! A superstition is a way we can try to understand why something happened and is essentially a comfort to have a reasoning which makes it seem better. I lose my job and then remember I walked under a ladder I can come to terms with why it happened and essentially believe that it meant to happen. Without the ladder I would always be wondering why it happened!
I flew on a plane today... Friday the 13th! Nothing bad happened! Apart from my holiday ending! 🤣
I can be somewhat superstitious sometimes, but not really with any traditional superstitions as much. It's more of an "it can't hurt to be safe" thing for me.One that seems to run in the family is that we all have a lucky number and go by that for everything. Sometimes I have to touch something a certain amount of times to match my lucky number. Sometimes I have to touch something and think with a positive thought if I had previously touched it while thinking a negative one (I know that one's weird, lol). For example, if I touch my car afraid something bad will happen, I need to touch it again and think about the car and I returning home from a safe drive.
Beliefs are beliefs. Its not about religion or about culture. Due to avoid any false converstaion i usually avoid discussions based on religion. But seriously it has nothing to do with any thing but experience. You know out of no where black cat crossed your path and you failed to do a certain task though because of your carelessness but you developed a belief. And belief is a belief. And something bad happened on 13th and you developed another beleif. These are man made things. Why we believe that nothing bad will happen except 13. Everyday is a curse, every day has its own history of incidents. But to believe in any superstition is a mere belief.
I mean it just crazy stuff. Why would Friday the 13th out of any other day be something to worry about? I mean imagine if we adopted the French revolutionary calendar, Friday the 13th wouldn’t be a thing. The concept of Friday and the number we label the days are purely arbitrary. Our entire calendar system itself is arbitrary since our planet axial rotation has nothing to do with it’s orbital period.
Ok, fair enough.Any superstitions?
I don’t believe in thins without evidence.
All floors in the home are to be swept from the front of the home towards and out the back door of the home. All household waste is to go Out the backdoor.Sweeping yesterday's dirt/dismay out the front door leaves open the possibility of yesterdays dismay returning to the home.
I was born on Friday the Thirteenth and everything's worked out well since then... well when I say worked out, I mean it's been a series of embarrassing moments and F*cks ups but I've had a few fun moments on the way! lol
You have great stories!! Fuckups are worth it (I think) if you find great comedy in it!
Well being a gyspy we have tons of superstitions, some of them are reverse superstitions that normal people have.Like owls represent evil for us and black cats represent good luck. So if an owl cross your pass is taken as a sign of evil and maliciousness but if a black cat crosses your path then it's taken as a sign of good things to come and good luck.
Only one: don't disrespect your mother because your life will shorten. I've heard about too many early deaths and bad things happening to people who have disrespected a good mother. I wouldn't want to do it anyway, but still...
Just this onehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CFuCYNx-1g
Dammit. Now I have the song struck in my head!!
You're welcome. Besides, there are far worse songs to have stuck in your head ;)
Yes but it's late and this one makes me want to dance.
I believe in the bad luck after breaking a mirror. 🌸💜🌸
I have broken a lot of mirrors...
No because this stupid shit is man made. I own two black cats. They cross my path daily. Stupid shit like pic up apenny only heads up and Friday 13 th. Calenders and coins are man made. how could they change your life
I don't walk under ladders and I try to stay away from back cats. I do occasionally step on cracks, tho.
My kitten is black but he has white paws... does it have to be an all black cat?
Black cats* 🙄😂Yes, I think it has to be all black. 🤔
I guess I do yeah. I put my black cat in the freezer today so she nor I would cross each others path on a full moon Friday 13th. Not to worry though. I’ll let her out right after midnight
Oh boy :) Friday the 13th :) gotta watch some Jason :) I do get nervous with certain things but overall thankfully they don't come to mind that often
Me with my boyfriend the day after.
Yes - i think you can make people think about you by meditating on them
I have a habit to actually 'challenge' superstitions.
... or dumb? :D :D :D
I think actually respecting an unsubstantiated belief based on no demonstrable or empirical evidence is absurd. look at the +
I'm not a superstitious individual. I find them hard to believe, mostly because I'm a student of science which is all about rationalization. I don't deny em, just don't believe them.
I don't "believe" in them persay but I'll still knock on wood sometimes 😅
I’m not superstitious but I noticed that I don’t walk on the sidewalk cracks
As much as the next shits gonna go down either from super natural reasons or just cause cards lay as there fate had them?
Yes and no. I like the stories behind them, and I like old wives tales as well.
I do too!
I'm not really superstitious, but my friend thinks that if we cheers and one of us doesn't drink, it will cause bad luck.
One thing I believe is not stepping over a growing child / baby... my family believes it stunts their growth and they’ll be short... the way to undo it is by reverse stepping back over the kid
Not really. I believe i make my own luck or i have the power to control such superstitions. 😎
I believe I'm gonna go take some photos of the moon.
No, I don't. It's just another day for me, but I am happy that it will Friday.
Yes i refuse to go under a ladder and i won't break glass mirror.
not really I believe we just have off days that's why we mite have a fall or were not paying attention
I do not, and absolutely hate when people hate black cats because of it! Black cats are awesome!
Nope. Being a science major has allowed me to look behind the curtain on these things. Which I find more interesting than supernatural explanations.
No, I am not superstitious. I do believe the devil works extra hard on times such as these to try to stir people's superstitions up more.
All that means to me is that I'm not gonna meet a woman and I'm not getting laid just like any other Friday night!
Nope. It’s just like any other day ! A shit show is always a potential issue
I don’t believe in ghosts or angels or anything to that extent. I believe in full moons causing weird things To Happen tho, I’ve heard from doctors and nurses in ER’s that full moons are always bizarre nights for them
Eehhh, 50/50. I know walking under that ladder won't give me bad luck but I'm still going to go around it anyway type deal.
Yeah, I've seen some... questionable things in life in which I have questioned reality.
I don'tMy mother had a black cat when I first moved in for adoption and she was wonderful.
Its said its when satanist do sacrifices to feed on dark energy.. Peoples fears.. Same as Halloween.. etc.. Other then that i dont know...
Every wedding I've been to, something bad has happened to meAlso, I have A shirt, where every time I wore it, something bad happened to meI have been wanting to burn it
I believe that the power of positive or negative thinking.
A few but they’re mostly born of practicality
Like not walking under a ladder?
Nope. More things like; don’t walk in a cemetery without protection, don’t go outside if you hear someone calling for you etc
That was supposed to say *gotcha!
Oh crap thank you for telling me
I'm calling in sick... the kids will be climbing walls!!
I believe luck is real, but it's not really determined by what you do. It's just what you were born with.
Nope, I have a black cat. Nothing but good luck.
A lot of people still suffers from that believes. It's pretty amusing when they do their rituals to cleans themselves.
Don't step on manholes
Wait... it's 2019... peopleholes*
Lmao So nice of you to be politically correct! Can't wait to not step on a peoplehole tomorrow!
No, I don't believe in any superstitions.
I’m literally scared to go out tomorrow
It’s already Friday 13th here. Now that’s spooky
I am staying in doors tomorrow haha :)
I would feel cursed if I acknowledged.
People celebrating mid autumn today !
I only believe in what can be proven.
Superstitions are all fake.
I believe in Murphy laws if that counts
No. They make for good stories though
I do believe in spooks
I believe people are sluttier on full moons :p
