Can we just reread that question? Is it deHUMANIZING to call someone a HUMAN? No, no it's not. The word you're looking for is impersonal. Names are used to signify uniqueness and to differentiate people from each other. They aren't something that somehow makes us human. Calling someone a name may well indicate that a person doesn't care about the individuality of the person all that much, but individuality isn't an exclusively human trait in the first place. Orangutans have individuality, bears have individuality, ravens have individuality, dolphins have individuality, etc etc. No it's not dehumanizing to call someone human. It may be disrespectful but it's not dehumanizing.
Saw this yesterday and settled on an answer today.Yes.I was leaning yesterday to dodging the question. It certainly strips someone's identity away, but of course it identifies them simply as a human so dehumanizing seems the wrong word. Objectifying, maybe. And that's somewhat true: it treats them as a sort of object category human, as opposed to an individual. But i'm more comfortable saying yes today, because calling someone 'human' is not how humans address one another, hence it's not treating them as a fellow human, hence it's dehumanizing.
I once named my cat "kitty" I eventually changed the name because who wants to be called what they are
What is the vote option “I was high as shit when I thought of this question”!
I'll use this as the button by liking this opinion
😂 It's trippy right!
Not as high as I am right now. And Trip... yes please
Dude, I wish
LOL! As a "Software Guy", almost every code I write maps something in real world to a number, including humans. (Ad Google does that every moments, so is G@G).But as a "human" in flesh and blood, I like to be called by my name. And I find it a lot more intimate to address a person by name, now number, not "Hey pretty girl!", not "YOU over there!".So it depends. Am I doing a job, or establishing a friendship?
Not even degrading.. I wouldn't try remember names at a specific job bc no one ever stayed longer then month or two.. As the head chef calling to sell their orders id say... Hey girl. Hey lady.. Just a title thats not their name... didn't say hey bitch or anything in that manner
Lets face it we live in a time that everyone is so worried about hurting someones feeling etc. we are be coming more and more pussified everyday. its sickening to think that we are going to a time that boys are wanting to become girls and visa versa. be happy with what you got. by calling someone instead of there name is just generalizing everything that makes us individuals.
I don't know carbon lifeform unit. What do you think?
😂 I cannot voice my opinion, fellow sack of protons, neutrons, and electrons
Dehumanizing to you or the person you refer to. I only ask because calling people humans makes you sound like your a robot or alien in dishuise, so i voted yes, because it dehumanizes you *hits blunt*
This is what I imagine
Ok human, let me learn you thing or two! I think it depends on context. If you are using it as a pejorative, the yes probably so. I like to say "what's happening human? " I like the alliteration! No one has been overtly offended before!
Yes.I hate when I see people saying "males" and "females" too.
If it is, does it mean calling a puppy "puppy" is depuppynizing? 😅
Yes but not entirely bad because it brings us all into the same category as we all have the same connection to being human but it demeans that we can't be individuals, which we can.
It’s not dehumanizing but it’s just weird to me. Just call them by their name.
I don't see it as dehumanising. But I can see that it could be used in a very disrespectful and dismissive way.
I really couldn't care less. I don't get annoyed easily over wrong names. You get used to it when your real name can be spelled 6 different ways.
Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that's the type of hateful language Nazi Germany used against the Jews
I'm pretty sure they didn't even call them human
Now that you mention it, I vaguely recall something about Hitler having a crazy plan to exterminate them like vermin and take over the world
That is just so stupid to call someone human instead of by their name
I don’t think so. My daughter does it. I think it’s cute.
If someone came up to me and addresses me as "human" I would immediately think they were a robot.
The person saying it would seem like they are not human. Unless you're just joking, it's pretty rude.
is it dedogginizing to call a dog a dog? i rest my case
Yes, if you know their name. You're calling them by their to instead of treating them as a person.
Not in my language at least. we use 'mens' all the time and casually as well.
No it’s de alienizing
When I don't know a name I just say "yo boss" or "yo g" 🤣 🤣
I never remember names so i call you various words i make up
no, if you called them an animal, then it isSex freaks, you know what I'm trying to imply here..I'm not talking about having "relations" in the bedroom
It's like when you call something funny so it ain't funny no more 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Are they being addressed by an alien?
let's go with no😂
surei would say ok Alien
And I'd say your welcome for the DNA that we lent you. Lol
Not dehumanizing, just really weird.
Come here you pesky human
It depends. Cause it depends.
As an owl, I find this weird.
Context, if it’s funny...
I dont think so i hate every human as a whole lol
Damm.. hey human y did you write this post.. Lol
I think it's very humanizing.
Depends on what circumstances
Not if you're about to mace them.
If someone called me that, I wouldn't mind
Not dehumanizing. More just weird.
Never happened to me
Yes it is dehumanizing
No not at all
Yes it is
