What do you think of the parable of the Snake and the Saw?
This is the first I hear of this, but I think it makes some valid points. 1. Don't act upon your anger 2. Think before you act 3. Know your strengths and when it is worth fighting 4. Learn to accept failure. You can't win every battle ... There are so many messages to take from this! Thanks for sharing!

Snakes are dumb and I don't like them. However the moral of the story presents a scenario of instinctive counterattack, and the unnecessary self harm resulting from thoughtless reaction
It is a reminder to think before you act. A hasty solution to a problem may actually make things much worse.

Me personally shows you can't just jump the gun for lack of a better word. Often times I find that doing things out of anger or emotions in general. I end up just hurting myself more. I've come to realize that taking time. Letting my emotions subside. I can take better action in such a situation. Had a guy always running his mouth, messing with my girl. Just stupid stuff in general. Let him be during all of it. One day I saw he was on the edge. didn't have to do much to push him over. He swung first and my dream came true, I went off on him. Not long after police saw the tapes and saw him swing first. He went to jail for 5 or so day's. I dropped the chargers and he hasn't kept running his mouth since then. Taught him a lesson for sure.

Interesting, I've never heard that before. Do you know where it originated? As for the parable itself I would liken it much to the saying, "do not attribute to malice what can easily be attributed to ignorance.", in that in many cases a minor thing escalates because of presumed ill intentions ending in catastrophy, usually for the individual who presumed the malice to begin with.

We have to learn to hold loosly, or choose our battles wisely.
I learned this riding dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and road bikes. Hold too tight transfers the shock on, lose control and wears you out. Relax, flow with it... saves energy.
This reminds me of the snake and my rattrap. The snake was seeking the scent of the mouse bait and found a trap that grabbed it mid body. Then it coiled around it to suffocate the trap but the snake just died of exhaustion.
Given that I have seen snakes do some wild things in person and the rattrap catch, I would say that the parable is reality, though rare, and so any proverbial or metaphorical value is exemplified.
I kinda liken it to people who stay in toxic relationships, not even realizing that they are being hurt more and more and would be better off just walking away after being continually hurt. I don't know...

I'm assuming the lesson is that sometimes the things that hurt us or not because we are getting attacked, but because the very nature of the thing itself is deadly.

Interesting perspective. Sometimes it's better to pick and choose your battles. Not be to hasty to attack back. Just learn to understand what position you are in and if that will literally be the death of us. Good stuff.
It reminds me of feminists that act the opposite of what they defend by going so much into their mental gymnastics.

This is tough. We are supposed to pick our own battles. But a that could of been a rat that bit him. If didn’t fight back he would look weak and go hungry.
