I've often been wondering that myself. Fun and dreams are for the young and not the old. I honestly want to see adults on their smart phones having fun rather than caught in the role of service to the younger. But what's important to note is as a kid you can't always bring dreams to reality because of age. But even simple dreams can be accomplished by people of the very old, for example the Hershey chocolate commerical where the old man surprisesmany people with a free chocolate bar as a gift. That being said, anyone of any age has the ability to dream and make their dreams come true

A realistic understanding of the friction of life.
I was recently talking to my little cousin's girlfriend who just graduated high school and asked her what she wants to do, she goes, "I just want to do so many things!"
I told her, "Pick three, because the rest ain't happening."
Because when you are young, you have a number of unrealistic wishes that never come true. Time and experience teaches you to be more realistic and accept that nothing you ever dreamed is ever coming true.
So you adapt your dreams to correspond more with reality. Also, the older you get, the lower your needs, unless of course you are one of those greedy humans. With age, you are more mature and wiser and much less materialistic.
They start to realise that life isn't all rainbows and unicorns. They start to see and understand the world for what it is, and their imaginations aren't as strong once they see it.
I don't think that's always true. For one example, look at US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. He's older, but still has big dreams.
For those that do have smaller dreams when they get older, I think it's probably a combination of things. One is that they've had so many things that didn't turn out as they wanted that they've gotten discouraged and focus on smaller things that they think they might have a realistic chance of achieving. Another is that health problems and just basic aging tends to reduce energy levels and so the dreams become less ambitious. Another factor could be that older people know they have less time left so they might focus on smaller things that can be achieved more quickly.
Because they are afraid of failure, having broken heart and have a lot of laziness... but they don't understand that's it is all necessary. if we don't fall down how do we get up and walk careful?
I think it has a lot to do with stereotypes and limiting beliefs that are deep in our subconscious mind. Also resignation, a negative mindset, these types of things
