I believe that action can influence beliefs because of cognitive dissonance. If someone asks me a huge favour and I agree to do it, I might start to think that I like this person who asked me for me to agree to their request because it wouldn't make sense for me to do someone a huge favour if I didn't like him/her. In the same way, if everyone is talking crap about my cousin whom I know is annoying, but because they're my cousin, I make arguments to them as to why my cousin is not annoying, than eventually, I'll believe that my cousin is not annoying. I do this to alleviate the discomfort of my actions misaligning with my beliefs.
