Why am I shitty ass person?

Question

my dog has very bad teeth, like lots of plaque on his teeth. He hates having his teeth brushed. I tried giving him bones, but he doesn't like them. I took him to the vet and she said it would be 800 dollars. : ( I can't afford it otherwise I would've done it already. he's half paralyzed, gets frequent UTI'S. HIs ears itch a lot. I feel like he deserves better. He is always so happy when I come home from work and I always think "why do you miss me." I'm a shitty dog mom, he has special needs and I'm trying hard to meet them but I'm not. my money drains before my eyes. I have to pay rent to my mom, and have to buy food. And by the time I'm done I'm left with 50 bucks in my account. I just saw on Tik Tok of a groomer talking about dogs going neglected and abused with dental, ear, and nails. I'm that pet owner, I'm a shitty ass person. he's my baby, but boy I can't even pay to get his teeth cleaned? they are bad.. I have to help him go to the bathroom. I don't know why he wants to always be by me but he always cuddles with me. now I'm looked at the girl who neglects her dog and is a shitty ass human who can't afford to take her dog into the vet. I just can't afford to take him in the vet all the time, its expensive.. I tried applying for care credit TWICE I got denied. My dogs nails are getting long too and he won't let me clip them. I'm 23, I have no car. I'm in debt and I can't take care of my dog. he's literally my baby.

I feel so bad for him he deserves so much better. Why am I such a fuck up? And I know I'm gonna get the comment "why did you get a dog if you can't take care of him" and you are right. Why did I do that

You're doing what you can, even if you tried harder you'd probably end up becoming emotionally unstable. You can't make money out of nowhere so just accept things how they are.

What would you do in her place? I never told her to torture her dog. I just said she's unable to do anything about it so no reason to worry about it.

I would give my animal to someone who can take care of him/her. An innocent animal doesn’t deserve to be in pain. If we cannot afford medical urgencies then we should not have pets.

Frequent UTI’s, bad teeth, bathroom issues, you can’t clip his nails. If a vet charges you 800 dollars then there are major procedures being done. If you think that THIS is a happy healthy animal then please find that dog a new owner IMMEDIATELY. This is coming from someone who volunteered for a shelter for years, I fostered dogs who were neglected and uncared for.

You're the humanitarian type I see. "Innocent dog". There are innumerable innocent dogs and cats living around the world in second and third world countries without a home, without food, full of infestations like maggots, sick, thirsty, unable to receive medical treatment and they all slowly die to illnesses. Suffering to the last second of their life.

Yet this one person who is trying her best to give her dog the treatment she wants her to get and tries to help him and you shun her for being incapable of taking care of it.

I know, I volunteered for a shelter. If she were trying her best then she would find a solution for her dog. A solution in this case is a new home with an owner who can afford medical bills, can potty-train and clip nails. She may be trying but clearly it is not enough. It is how it is.

If you two believe that you should keep an unhealthy dog because you “try”, please do not ever get pets. It’s mistreatment. An innocent animal deserves a fair chance. Learn to be responsible, make sure you have money, be patient and responsible. Then let’s talk again. All I am hearing here is entitlement on your ends without actual care for the dog in question. I’m not being personal or attacking you per se, but I will always advocate for an animal. I own 5 pets, owned 15 in total. Fostered dozens. I love animals and THIS kind of mindset makes me sick. I’m out.

I know you love animals, especially your dog. THAT I never took from you. But if you cannot afford vet expenses, it is simply not fair to keep him in bad condition.

@Marilynjuana I'm not with inasjdj's side in this matter. I think it's absolutely shameful she put that dog in the position it is in now. I'm only saying if she can't do anything about it. So she should stop worrying about it.

I just don't see how giving the dog away would be a solution.. Well it would be, but not many people would take a dog that's in that state.

It’s difficult to find a person who would take in a broken dog but it can be done, the pups/dogs I fostered, quite a few of them had health conditions. We also set up Gofundme’s etc for the animals that needed support.

@Marilynjuana From the sound of things it sounds like the dog is older. Teeth don't just get really rotten if it's a puppy. Making it even more doubtful someone else would take it.

So she shouldn’t try at all? We found a home for a dog with terminal cancer. Why, because he was not in pain and still had time If that can be done then an older pup with bad teeth can find a home, too.

First of all GET RID OF TIK TOK, second I think its better to give the dog to someone else because of not enough money and it makes almost more problems, third have a talk with your mother: my mother would surely support me in times of depression etc. maybe she helps you out.

If you can’t afford to give your animal the life it deserves then do what’s best for your dog - find him a home where his needs are met. YOU may not want to let go of him but this is where you have to be senseless. He’s an innocent animals, he deserves to be healthy.

You are not a shitty person because you clearly care, but are financially constrained. It is also not uncommon for people to get in over their head with something they initially thought they could handle or afford, but find out later that they can't.

Some vets offer payment plans, ask yours about that or try to find one with that option.
