Do you think it's necessary to have a family member or friend help you for most things, or can most things be done with one person?
It depends on what you are doing. Most things can be done by yourself. Others you can do by yourself, but having a second person makes it a lot easier. A small number of things are almost impossible by yourself.A lot, or all of the tearing out can be done by yourself, unless you have something really heavy.A lot of tedious work can be done by yourself.Almost all finish work can be done by yourself.Something like hanging drywall / sheet rock is an example of something you can do by yourself, but it's difficult. Hanging cabinets is easier with a second person. What's important if you don't have a background in that type of work is to be systematic. Learn what you can BEFORE you start anything. The order you do things is important. It's easy to get ahead of yourself then realize that you should have done something else first. Then you have to tear things apart and redo it.Write things down and have a running list of things to do, supplies you need, permits you need to get, etc.So think everything through first and plan what you are doing. Always stop and think before you proceed to the next step. There is a saying, "Measure twice, cut once." It applies to a lot more than cutting.Watch videos (which didn't exist in my day). Talk to people and ask questions.Stop and look at things in progress to see if it's going to turn out the way you thought. It might seem right in your mind, but when you actually see it it might not be what you wanted. It's OK to make changes along the way. That's common. Just be careful with costs, because changes can eat you up if you do too many.
This is very helpful. I will keep all this in mind. I appreciate you taking your time to help with this!
