I totally agree. All fields of science whether that be soft or not are based on our ability to find commonalities within behaviors and characteristics. To assume that generalization by itself is bad is a not correct. We can never build theories or plan contingencies or survive without our ability to group or generalize to a certain extent. The difference is when people don't understand how to logically or reasonably do it. When it's used randomly without base for fear mongering or to trigger hatred and discrimination. But to say that all generalization is good or bad is not factual or even a reasonable assumption. We are so diverse as humans even with our DNA that to trailer studies and theories to the individual will never ever be viable not it will be possible.
@mindNsoul - Preach it gurl!
But it’s more likely to be true that someone is a Rasta if they look like one, u can’t help but make judgements, they’re logical
@SpeshalK19977 You need more evidence. I mean, if it looks like one and acts like one and talks like one then okay. But to generalize a whole group? No, that’s the OPPOSITE of logical. Logic is used on the basis of truth. That’s why math is primarily logic once you get into calculus, because it is what it is and those facts never change.
Assumptions are understandable if you have all the evidence of the person/thing. But when referring to a whole group, if you don’t know every individual in the group, at some point your assumption is wrong.
So if someone is dressed in black and wearing a mask just standing around in a back alley, ur telling me it’s unlogical to assume they are a serial killer?U will jus keep walking towards them thinking it’s safe?Ur very logical HhahahaHahHa
@SpeshalK19977 1) I didn’t say that.2) That’s not “generalizing” because as I mentioned it’s one person and you have some hard evidence. So I think you should learn to read before trying to understand what logic is. Take baby steps first :)
If this was Reddit, Yads_Is_Back would be on clevercomebacks...
Like it or not, stereotypes are based on the truth. Empirically true but not an accurate measure of one person to the next and every person on earth has the ability to step outside their stereotypes at any given moment. I know people love hearing that stereotypes accurately describe groups but then want to offer a rebuttal that is always using a small portion or individual to prove their case thereby proving mine. If you have any examples to prove me wrong then I will gladly discuss how rare of an example you have dug up or let it stop me from making that generalization in the future but until then I will continue to play the odds that are likely true just like I will still stand on 20 no matter what the dealers card is even though I know it could be an ace up next. And if you honestly believe that you dont make generalizations every single day and will continue to do so every day til the day you die then confratulations on being the one human being on earth who has not evolved with the rest of us
@coolhandroo I don’t disagree. You actually said I’m right.“Empirically true but not an accurate measure of one person to the next and every person on earth has the ability to step outside their stereotypes at any given moment.“No disagreement or dislike whatsoever :)
@mindNsoulYou used to be a girl.
@MCheetah yeah I change every two weeks depending on the moon position lol. Man cat is a cute giving to @Sonorous because he is funny and his profile picture is weird. It wasn't directed to any other man so chill. It wasn't an insult dude 🌹
*cute nicknameBut he never consented nor objected so I don't know 🤔😐
@Sonorous mean 😑
Yes yes yes
Finally someone with a brain
Same with someone who looks like a thief, eg: black skin colour, baseball cap, big T shirtIf your a security guard it’s logical to assume they could be a thief, cos if u ignore their appearance they could be constantly stealing under ur nose without u even realising, which could cost u to be fired,So pay attention to generalisations, they help u make accurate judgements about people
And even that is a generalization, because there are exceptions. If you are a cop and see someone dressed in what looks like gang colors and a crime was just committed you are likely to generalize and profile that person.
Look at my comment
I cannot agree nor disagree
