Why when I go to the dr I never see a doctor?

Because a NP can prescribe and there are more of them than M. D.'s. If your problem is more serious than they can handle they'll elevate you to an M. D. just like any other helpdesk. Generally you'll interact with a CNA at best, then the M. D. for a few minutes for them to sign off unless something is really wrong.

certain medical fields has so few actual doctors that they have multiple spaces under their name but can only be in one of them at a time. really a nurse practioner is a doctor in all but name and pay, otherwise do the exact same thing. i know this because a specialist i used to go to all the time did this too, so i asked why. never did even see a picture of the actual doctor (went there for 5 plus years). plus a nurse practioner is considered more versatile so can go about a little more freely. many of your lower income clinics and non hospital clinics have nurse practioners who actually run most of the day to day medical care.

It’s common in this Covid age. But if you wish to see the doc you can wait. I’m just there for refills baby.
