No, the song is about a famous British cannon, but since it was a kids song it was said 2 be an egg, to make it more kid friendly.

Hehe, after some googling it appears that he was originally a cannon, which makes a lot more sense that he was sitting on a wall and people were trying to put him back together.

Lewis Carroll first depicted him as an egg in the book, Through The Looking Glass in 1872.

Yes originally he wasn't an egg. But it would be too dark so the artist who drew humpty dumpty just turned him into a egg.

All jokes aside you should look into the history of Nursery rhymes they're pretty messed up. They think humpty dumpty may have been based off a real person.
