Narcissist are insecure, yet they have a high regard for themselves. How is it possible?

e. g. This guy I know is a narcissist with antisocial personality disorder. He carries himself with a high regard, yet he’s insecure. He can’t keep a job. He doesn’t put in effort to get a job on his own. In his own words, “I never gotten a job without assistance from either my friends, or my victims.” His mom kicked him out; he’s homeless, he’ll couch surf when someone allows him. Dispute his situation, he talks about himself as if he’s a great catch. He fabricates. Meanwhile he’ll talk poorly about his friends, the same friends that help him out when he’s in need. Ironically, they’re further in life than he is. He has this attitude, as if he’s better than everyone, and everyone needs to impress him. Yet, when he’s in need he has no trouble playing on the kindness of people’s hearts.
