Why do some people say porscha instead of porsche?
- Literally just heard this debated the other day on a podcast, I guess the actual pronunciation is “POR-sha.” I think the “PORSH” one is just an Americanized way of saying it, but in the native language of wherever the Porsche name originates from, my understanding is that it’s pronounced the other way. I say “PORSH” too, s’all good, haha.1|00|1Is this still revelant?
@Tonytoutouni123 I’m still unclear, because I have no idea how a German pronounces “Porsche”, haha
@Tonytoutouni123 This Porsche dealership claims it’s correctly pronounced “POR-shuh”, but it’s in America, so I don’t know

Haha ok I see. It may be that "Por-shuh" is the correct American pronunciation. But the correct German pronunciation is simply "Porsche". See the comment written by @Static_In_The_Attic
As in the video, it is correct in German.@WhiteSteve
Sorry. My mistake. We Germans pronounce "e” differently than you Americans do, and we almost always pronounce "sch" the way you pronounce "sh" so it was not useful of me to say that we pronounce it “Porsche”.
Anyway, the way it is pronounced in the video is the correct German pronunciation.@Tonytoutouni123 all good, man, I figured that’s where we were missing each other, just something in the difference of pronouncing sounds between German and American-English. I was on the right track but the wrong train, haha.

215- I think that's like the playful term 🤔 because I've heard it said that way too 😅 I like to think of it like "the bears" vs "da bears" two different ways to say it but one way is grammatically correct while the other is playful1|00|0
- Germans don't have silent E's on the end of words so they say the E on the end of Porsche. Deutsche in Deutsche Bank would be another example of a word some Americans know in German.1|10|0
- The German pronunciation is Porsche. It may be that the English pronunciation is Porscha. I don't know.0|00|0
Sorry, I didn’t take into account that we Germans pronounce "e” and “a” differently than Americans do, so it was useless of me to say that we pronounce it “Porsche” cause that doesn’t help. Anyway, the way it is pronounced in the video a few comments below is the correct German pronunciation.

- Why do some people say porscha instead of porsche? Both. It depends.
One is a woman's latin first name. One is German family name of a car manufacturer.0|00|0 - Porscha called by the rich. porsche for poor peasants1|20|1
I have a Porsche. I am not rich, but now that someone said this, will I become rich magically?
- I believe the proper German pronunciation is porscha1|20|1
Yes, it is, but only in Germany or when speaking German. In English, Porsche" is correct. by the way, the name in German or English translates to "this fucking car is KILLING ME in maintenance costs"! Among the Porsche cognoscenti, there is talk of the "Porsche tax", an extra charge added on to every singe damn thing that can be used on or goes on a Porsche (a battery maintainer costs about $ 20.00, but the exact same one with a Porsche label costs $ 200.00, etc). Porsche dealerships are routinely referred to as "stealerships".
FAKE NEWS. I am german and trust me no single person in germany says porscha! We say Porsche.

Anyway, if you want to know how it is pronounced in German, watch the video in the comment of @Static_In_The_Attic Maybe that’s what you meant with “porscha”.
- They do?
I never met someone say that
Some people do shit like that i never cared to understand it, i just ran with it1|00|0 - The former pronunciation is correct from my understanding1|00|0
- Because the correct way to pronounce it is porscha. The American way of saying it is porsche0|00|1
- Porscha is the German pronunciation, I think. Very affected unless you are German.1|00|1

Anyway, the way it is pronounced in the video a few comments below is the correct German pronunciation. Maybe that’s what you meant with “porscha”.@Tonytoutouni123 In the proper pronunciation, “Porsche” is actually a two-syllable word. So it is really pronounced like “Por-shuh.” The team at Hendrick Porsche is happy to help you with all of your Porsche questions, including how to say it!
So as it reads most in English most people pronounce it as Por-shh how ever if you watch videos on people from Germany saying the name they either say it with an "uh" or "ah" sound slightly different but close enough that either work for the pronunciation of the spelling of Porscha.- Show All Show Less
I know that it’s two-syllable. The problem is that I don’t know what you mean with “por-shuh” cause “por-shuh” is probably differently pronounced in English than in German. The German “por-shuh” is completely wrong but I don’t know how “por-shuh” is pronounced in English so it may be the correct pronunciation.
Anyway, I recommend you to watch the video of static_in_the_attic a few comments below. That’s the correct pronunciation.

I am German and I know how it is pronounced in German but cannot explain it. But you can watch the video in the comments “Are you saying Porsche correctly”. That’s the correct german pronunciation.
